FETTERMAN CONFRONTED: âIâm a breast cancer survivor, I had a double mastectomy, and the Trump administration took my health care away⦠And youâre standing with him.â

Fetterman can barely talk. Painful to watch as usual.

He's always in his Marvel costume. What's up with that.

(46,387 posts)Either he was a bullshitter, and always a DINO in his first tenure, or the brain injury just messed him up terribly so his morals flipped.

(7,723 posts)I have empathy for medical patients seeking treatment and healing.
I have no respect for those who hire the mentally-deficient, exploiting and expecting them to behave the same as a person with a non-diseased brain.
Its why they lashed cannons to the decks of sailing warships in centuries past.
Lest they become loose cannons.

(77,889 posts)And yes it looks like Fetterman is so far out to lunch that he has to use his cell phone to
record and translate very simple statements and questions in English so his damaged
brain got to read what the person was saying before he could respond.
paleotn
(22,773 posts)He's not physically or mentally able to perform the job of Senator. He just needs to go, one way or another.
Dave says
(5,474 posts)I thought he needed that reader when he left the hospital post-stroke.
The stroke couldve damaged his ability to process auditory sound but left the brain areas that enables reading just fine. No? My understanding is that Fetterman sometimes has difficulty hearing words; the recording device helps.
Now, lets talk about Fettermans judgement and some of his votes. Both leave a lot to be desired. Definitely a Manchin.
paleotn
(22,773 posts)And you do deaf people a real disservice by conflating the two. Not only did it affect his hearing, his brain is not processing normally, thus, he cannot do the job effectively. Even with his device, he's still left stammering. He needs to go.
Dave says
(5,474 posts)(Just not solely because he uses a recording device. Youd agree thats just one of many reasons.)

He is failing to represent Pennsylvania voters.

(67,409 posts)My job has me working in a lot of rural and outlying areas of western PA, and I can tell you that the solidly Red voters in those regions are 100% behind this new, post-stroke Fetterman.

(33,494 posts)But a Democratic United States Senator who consistently votes with Senate Republicans, that's a different story, and has nothing to do with his hearing problems.

(5,574 posts)caucus with the republicans. We need every Democrat even in name only especially for the upcoming midterms to even have a chance at a majority Senate. The healthcare message though was very powerful.
BannonsLiver
(20,869 posts)I dont think he wants Democrats to control the senate. So wed need 52 to make him irrelevant.

I had no idea that Fetterman has such terrible problems with communication. That is scary for someone with so much power.

(4,782 posts)... that WE pay for! And the evil fucks on the Dark Side of the aisle say, "OH! We can't afford to give you the same healthcare that WE receive on YOUR dime! Chop 'em into chum figuratively speaking, of course heh, heh, heh! And toss 'em into Chesapeake Bay for the sand sharks, IF they'll even eat them.

(22,773 posts)At least not for some congress people and Senators. Good work if you can get it, but many of us wouldn't want it once we saw what it entailed in our political system. There's a nearly constant need to fund raise if you want to get reelected.
paleotn
(22,773 posts)In fact, most of them aren't. There's work to do back home in their states and districts. And, since our entire political system runs on dollars, a significant amount of that time is spent fund raising for the next reelection cycle.

(7,986 posts)Citizens United just cemented it into our society. I'm still of the (now) old belief that elections should be paid for with a stipend from the government, and run only within a certain time frame prior to the election. I think England does the latter now, tho I'm not absolutely sure of that.
We don't need fundraising and campaigning for a future election the minute an election is over with... which trump constantly does, as do his R cronies. And I'm sick and tired of money grabbing from billionaires who then take over and run our government with OUR money, while we have no say whatsoever. The representatives don't represent us, The People. They only represent those who contribute mightily to their campaigns. Enough! The whole system (like so much else) has to be taken down to the studs and rebuilt.

(42,480 posts)He has problems with speaking, listening, and processing his thoughts in conversation.
He's not deaf but he needs to read subtitles when he's in conversations with people, just so he can process what is being said. That's how bad it is. He's not mentally ill but he was being treated for depression. (Maybe he still is?)
There's a very good chance that Chump is blackmailing Fetterman because his wife and her family came to the US as illegal immigrants, when Gisela was 7 years. She has since that time become a naturalized citizen and she has earned multiple master's degrees. I don't know whether the rest of her family are naturalized, but I hope they are. It would be terrible and immoral for Chump to threaten Fetterman's family, but who's going to stop him?
I'm saying this as a Pennsylvania voter and former supporter of Fetterman: The best thing for him to do is resign for medical reasons and allow Gov. Shapiro to appoint a replacement this year.
If Fetterman tries to run again in '28 he'll be primaried and almost surely lose. The Repukes don't want him, I know that for a fact. They're just happy that Fetterman is screwing the Democrats. Gov. Shapiro could probably find a nice easy job for him doing something for the State of Pennsylvania.
MyOwnPeace
(17,615 posts)but not sure if I agree with "the Repukes don't want him" part.
Why wouldn't they? He can 'walk their line' - 'somebody' on that side has 'control' of him - and he has won in Pennsylvania before.
And look at who the 'Repukes' have in other high offices of theirs that control the PA 'Repuke' machine.
Yes - he needs help - and I would have no problem with Shapiro giving him some 'job' to keep him busy and out of the way.
ANYTHING to 'GIT-HIM-GONE!'

(134,085 posts)what would happen if he called a press conference and announced it openly. I think about that scene in Eddie Murphy's "Distinguished Gentleman".
FakeNoose
(42,480 posts)I do feel badly for him but at the same time, things are too dicey right now to let this go. His seat and vote in the Senate are very important and he's not doing the job we elected him to do.

(90,879 posts)He needs to face consequences for his actions, when THE PEOPLE HE REPRESENTS are displeased. Like they are now. I bet they didnt vote for him to do that.
Its painfully obvious AND disappointing to witness, gotta say.
But the next part, of course, is finding the resolve to DO SOMETHING about it.
Vote.
Campaign.
Support the campaign. Keep in mind: support comes in MANY forms. MANY forms!!! Perfect for those supporters who genuinely care and want to help, but just dont have the budget for it.
