Most were close calls, but two direct hits: Celia 1970 and Harvey 2017. The landfall forecasting accuracy has helped as it has dramatically improved. That has reduced those “unnecessary” evacuations.

Trump’s cuts to the weather service may affect that, but we’ll still have the European Model.
