For example, the publisher reported a net loss of $16.9 million and frequently relies on subsidies to offset falling print

(5,801 posts)but was curious if it was just conservative papers that lose money, and it seems the Toronto Star does also and some other left of center papers. The newspaper business is tough there also.
applegrove
(133,327 posts)I don't think it ever made a profit. The Toronto Star was popular in the 20th Century before the newspaper industry tanked. The National Post never was.

(1,545 posts)...and even some employee policy manuals where contracts aren't involved. I would assume though, that being fired like this negates any non-compete clause he may have had. What's laughable is the clown that fired him, who has no real background in news, mentions that Pelley saying that is part of the reason for firing him. I won't be watching any CBS News show, or entertainment program.

(91,042 posts)Its oft-used nickname was "the Tiffany network" because of the high quality and good taste of its programming, AND ESPECIALLY its news presentation. Those three letters really meant something. Back when I was still working, if you worked at CBS, you were widely considered to be working for the absolute best network in the business. Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Eric Sevareid, Douglas Edwards, Bob Schieffer - it was a "murderers' row" of news giants, and if you were thought worthy to work where these folks worked, you were golden almost as much as they were.
Nice to be retired, I have to admit. I'm not only out-of-range, I'm no longer even on the same planet.

If she doesnt then we need to boycott 60 Minutes.
She has got to be hired by the MAGAts to sabotage this mainstay of TV.
