(17,712 posts)He may very well have been in pain (from the deadly motorcycle accident he had two months prior), further injured by this jerk who pushed him and tried to drown him
The aftermath of such a serious accident could also be painkillers and/or depression or risky behavior.

(2,209 posts)In case others may be confused, it's important to point out that crutches and canes and walkers and rollators aren't used exclusively for being able to stand upright. Zum beispiel, my husband can stand upright without his rollator, he can rise from a seated to a standing position without assistance, he can maintain balance too. But for mobility and traveling on his own power over any distance... and to be done safely, he does need his cane or rollator. Because someone isn't actively propped up with a cane or crutch or rollator doesn't mean they don't need them, and it doesn't mean that they are not challenged with safe mobility.

(2,209 posts)... For long distances even a rollator is not enough.

(4,809 posts)I follow a "use of force" expert on Youtube who testifies in trails related to road rage, fights, gunshots, etc. His most frequent advice is "Don't get into fights like this." Being right isn't going to keep you alive. It isn't your job to punish someone for being a jerk.
You don't know who is armed with CCW or a knife, or who is unhinged. Not worth it. De-escalate. Don't yell back. Leave or at the very least remain calm.
Once he has the 20YO head underwater lethal force to stop him may have been justified but far better not to escalate in the first place.

(2,095 posts)Maybe the kid did not know he was not supposed to be there. How does he not escalate? He is in an area he isn't supposed to be. Does he not escalate by going back in time and not being in that area? And the top video says the old man has several other charges, not for this incident, against him. Maybe the old man is looking for a fight, given the other charges. Maybe he just isn't all there.
With some folks you can be in a car with the tires pointed away from the person in front of you. You may not be escalating at all. Maybe you are being nice and tell the guy in front of you that it is ok, you are not mad at him. And despite not escalating, you are shot and killed.
Sometimes escalation is not needed.

(407 posts)I don't think it was filmed to go viral but as evidence. I would not have been able to show such restraint. They eventually did help. Too late in my opinion. One guy films, the other(s) help out.

(25,001 posts)Steven Dana, 70, of Hopkinton, has been ordered to stay away from and have no contact with the alleged victim or witnesses of the confrontation that erupted in chaos at Sandy Beach at Hopkinton's Lake Maspenock on Wednesday.
Framingham District Court Judge Michael Callahan, who released Dana on $7,500 bail, has also ordered the defendant to stay away from the beach and not to possess any firearms or dangerous weapons.
The incident has gone viral on social media, with a video showing Dana and a group of 20-something-year-olds shouting at each other before the defendant is seen slapping the 21-year-old man's face and then "orcefully holding (him) under the water," according to police.
