"You can't get blood out of a turnip..."

The DOJ lawyers were in front of the Appeals Court yesterday and were asked questions about the construction of the ballroom. Since the East Wing has already been demolished and construction had already begun on the ballroom, there is nothing anyone can do to stop it, they said.

The Judge then asked the hypothetical question whether the same would be true if they decided to demolish the Statue of Liberty? The lawyer said "yes". Nobody could do anything about it.

That is the state of politics in Washington.

It reminds me of the old story of the tax cheat that was standing in front of the Judge and was ordered to pay the taxes that he owed the government. He pleaded that he did not have the money. "You can't get blood out of a turnip", he said.

"But we can put turnip in jail", the Judge responded.
