It seems like a huge percentage of du participants are well off, I am not saying rich but yall talk about investing and vacationing a lot so theres no reason it would be on your mind all the time, that people are starving because of republicans controlling all 3 branches.
But thats what is happening
Dont let the imperfections of our very human candidates stop the blue wave we should be able to expect

For a lot of us which party is in power is an inconvenience, for poor people its a matter of life or death

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/30/snap-food-stamps-big-beautiful-bill.html

Consumers are facing price pressures as the costs of groceries and gas rise. The pace of inflation is expected to increase in the coming months, according to the Survey of Professional Forecasters, a quarterly macroeconomic survey from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Meanwhile, there has been a remarkable increase in food insecurity, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said in a recent blog post, as people cope with higher costs and the loss of federal aid.
A new analysis shows that nationwide almost 9% of individuals more than 3.5 million who were beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which provides food benefits to low-income families, lost those benefits between July, when President Donald Trump signed his big beautiful bill into law, and February. The analysis was conducted by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a nonpartisan research and policy institute.
That legislation included more stringent rules to qualify for SNAP, particularly regarding work requirements. In addition, the law shifted some administrative and cost responsibilities to states. Ahead of the laws passage, proponents said the changes to SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, would reduce waste and provide accountability.
Almost 42 million people nationwide received SNAP benefits in fiscal year 2025, according to the most recent figures from the Department of Agriculture. As states implement the changes, some are already experiencing dramatic declines in SNAP participation, according to CBPP, which used data from the Department of Agriculture and state programs.

Not even income level
Its a long wait for not much food so I dont think most people would bother to cheat
But I think my town is pretty much the best in a lot of ways and I dont know much about other places

(103 posts)My Luteran Church runs its own food bank and receives food from the USDA. We have seen a tremendous increase in the number of clients coming in the last year. The federal government has made cuts to what they give the food bank, but the community and the church come through. Many red states have already cut SNAP benefits and Medicaid; the Blues states are hanging on but when that Big Beautiful Bill goes into effect, they will be in trouble too. In this county we have community food banks also. Progressive sites are filled with folks talking about lacking food, lacking healthcare and the ability to pay for utilities. It is heartbreaking, I never thought this nation would be like this.

(2,305 posts)Got laid off April 16 (fuck you, Walgreens!) and as Ive struggled to stay afloat as I try not to become homeless, this place is saving us. They seem to get loads of things almost or just out of date from area supermarkets and farms, but its a HUGE load off to be able to come home and stuff our cupboards with basicsand sometimes, near-luxury treats (I dont do meat but they sent my son--also struggling to find work--home with like six packages of bacon, four chicken breasts, and a whole damned chicken last week!)
As an atheist, I felt kind of silly stooping to this but hey, any port in a storm. Will definitely remember them when we get back on our feet. *sigh*

(12,477 posts)Every person I know on assistance, had their food assistance cut, heating/ac cut, rents all raised. Some meds denied under medicaid or supplimental... Every soul I know, is now lost money because of SS increase. Everything else was cut, plus, trump and his minions cutting "fraud".
Poor people are struggling mightily, yet all anyone talks about is middle class?!? Um, go stand in a food bank that you had to walk to in rain, snow, 100's... stand for 2 hrs, then walk back to your camp. You know cops gonna run you out, next day, 3 day limit... That whole "Livibility", part of our local cops. Fire season already. You can't cook in camp with a flame. No lunch meat at the food bank 🤷♀️

(12,477 posts)A lot of food banks don't exist anymore. Donations are way down. Churches used to, but neighbors complain

People are getting desperate
People that were surviving, aren't. More homeless coming. They Are Not Invisible People! They Are Us!!

(98,783 posts)My sisters church, I am not religious, collects food donations every week and a different town receives those donations. I send a large bag with her every week. I don't have a lot of excess cash, though that doesn't stop me from giving. I look for sales and stock up on cereal, packaged milk, tuna, soups, peanut butter etc. I also add toothpaste and toothbrushes.
There is also a young woman that stands at the exit of my market, I always pull over and give her ten dollars. Half the time she is standing there in subzero weather.
I do what I can.

(12,477 posts)We give our cans and bottles, .10. So, she gets to keep our bags for her trash to haul out. It's so complicated out there. Camping in an undeveloped campground, and moving every 3 days. If you have kids you're trying to keep in school, that's a whole different hell. It's going to get worse. Some of our most popular city bus lines got cut. We knew trump was going to be horrible, but I don't think we knew just how deep the evil was going to get.
We all have to reach back and pull up as best we can. We can help just one day, hour, person... we can defeat and overcome. We can survive.
Love to you and yours. Keep fighting the Good fight! We got this!!

Either money or food. Ask what types of foods they need
Or volunteer at one
If you are a gardener, check with your local food shelf.
Many accept fresh fruits and veggies.
And if you need to use a food shelf, please do.
No one in the US should be hungry.

(1,817 posts)Catholic Charities of Dallas and the Methodist Churchs both have heavily stocked pantries and numerous distribution centers in this area. They have been a god send for some close to me. The Dallas catholic apparently has some large long term financial donors that keep it operating well.
Edit. I just read above at the religion bashing. Denton has food banks that are not church associated. Im just not as familiar with them. There are plenty of religious democratic members so I never follow this logic.

(5,322 posts)'shout out' for that here..... and that many of their prices for food items
are now LESS than for the same type of things at Kroger---
which was always the lowest priced outlet by my experience,
prior to 'the pandemic'...
Tonight I saw the 'bucket' at my Dollar General where they were
attempting to 'collect' those canned-food donations,
and it was pathetically mostly empty......
I usually walk there every day, with an empty backback, to carry back whatever I buy...
I will try to put something into it on my way there, to donate....

(60,609 posts)There, but for the grace of God, go I, as the saying goes. Substitute the Great Spirit for God, and I agree completely. My best friend in Dallas, who has made a ton of money just by having a knack for it, donated a goodly portion of his net worth to build a park in Dallas in a part of town that could really use a boost. It seemed more practical (and enduring!) than donating $15 to every single person in the metroplex. Some people legitimately at the end of their rope ask for help. There is no shame in that any more than there is any shame in having made out well.
