I forgot who said it, but i have to agree, we can't think of 250 as a "celebration" but rather a "commemoration"... hlthe2b 12 hrs ago #2

I sure as hell don't feel like celebrating on July 4th, but I can meditate, read, and commemorate.

If there is something to celebrate, it is the surrender of British General Cornwallis at Yorktown on October 19, 1781, the drawing up of the Constitution in 1787, its being ratified (June 21, 1788), or coming into force on March 4, 1789. March 4 was also the day in 1797 when the first peaceful transfer of power occurred in the United States when John Adams was inaugurated as the second President. "Peaceful transfer of power" prior to that usually meant that some monarch had joined the dearly departed in his sleep (Louis XVI didn't qualify).

I’ve loved his stuff for more than 60 years. From “My Son the Nut” onward.

Allen Sherman had a good voice. Who knew. I only knew of Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah.

A certain person should hear this clever song, but he wouldn't get it.
