Former soldier convicted of stealing seven truckloads of MREs!

https://taskandpurpose.com/news/former-soldier-convicted-stolen-mres/

Joseph Lavar Davis, 47, a retired soldier, stole 200 pallets of Army Meals, Ready to Eat, between February and August 2020 - which, as you may recall, was when Donald F. Trump was president the first time.

When Mr. Davis was a soldier his job was in food service supply, and after he retired from the Army he took the same job as a government contractor. A team of four conspirators worked to do this: Davis, who requisitioned them; a GI, who used his access to base to pick up the MREs from a warehouse on Fort Bliss, TX; an intermediary to transport the stolen MREs to a military surplus dealer in El Paso, TX; and the dealer who sold them online.

The total value of the stolen atrocities was over $1.1 million.

He was caught by the FBI, prosecuted by Army CID and was sentenced to ten years with a dishonorable discharge. He threw away thousands of dollars in benefits to sell chicken at a low sales price to crooks. Some crooks just want the gratification and don't think of the price they will pay if caught.

I was a cook on a tin can out of Norfolk, Virginia in the 60's. We didn't have anything worth stealing on that boat, but I could trade a large can of Navy Spam for a bottle of Cutty Sark or Jack Daniels any time.

I don't know if I can still get busted for that 60 years later.

During Harvey and its aftermath, those were often the only thing people had to eat.

MRE heist. I doubt George Clooney or Brad Pitt would be available.

He was busted down to Private for trading American cigarette rations for British rum rations.

He said it was a fair trade...
