People east of the mountans separating Wales from England spoke either middle German or Norse or a mixture, all of it hung loosely on Celtic grammar. The French would conquer England 40 years later, French slowly usurpoing Latin as the language of the court.

It's just astonishing to me how ignorant these people are about everything.
