Jul 3, 2026 #JamesTalarico #ChristianNationalism #Christianity
James Talarico's Christian nationalism sermon explores why he believes the movement conflicts with the teachings of Jesus. In this powerful message, Talarico argues that Christian nationalism prioritises political power over faith, traces its historical roots to Constantine, and explains his vision of the Kingdom of God centred on love, justice and compassion. Watch the full sermon to hear his perspective on Christianity, politics and authentic faith.

The religious scholars coined the term "Christian Nationalism" for very specific reasons. Consider Matthew D. Taylor.
He's one such scholar:

(9,043 posts)but I understand your point. Just think though, if it wasn't christian nationalism it would be another one. There are so many who think they are entitled to run other's lives.

I hope the people of Texas have the good sense to elect him to the senate. Our country desperately needs his voice of reason and love.
Thank you for sharing.

(15,263 posts)Almost everyone hated Ted Cruz, yet Beto ORourke couldnt unseat him.
Paxton is worse than Cruz. Hes like Trump in that he has no values other than self enrichment. He lies, cheats, commits adultery and fraud, and accepts bribes.
His own staff alerted the Feds to his corruption. The Trump DOJ dropped the investigation. The Republican Legislature impeached him, but the Senate failed to convict.
All while Texas Republicans passed school vouchers, placed the Ten Commandments in schools and mandated the reading of Bible stories in the public school curriculum. Theirs is a faith without works.
Talarico is our best shot for a Democratic Senator from Texas. I hope hes worthy of your financial support. He needs it.

(12,652 posts)Talarico is so good at this. Genuine, authentic in his person and faith.
We're going to learn a lot about the Texan electorate in November. Will Texans fall for Paxton's snake oil or respond to Talarico's message? Yes. they will attempt to paint Talarico as a radical because that's what and who Jesus was--a man who would change the world, turn over the tables of the rich and powerful and threaten the status quo.
Are we ready for that message? I don't know but we're going to find out.
