President Donald Trump's hyped-up plans to address the nation Thursday night might have hit a major roadblock as it remains unclear whether any major television network will actually air him, the Daily Beast is reporting.
Major broadcast networksABC, CBS, and NBCalong with cable outlets including Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC have remained silent on whether they intend to preempt regular programming to carry the speech, the Daily Beast reported Thursday morning.
As of Tuesday evening, the Thursday 9 p.m. time slot across networks continued to display "their standard scheduled content," with no indication that coverage would be interrupted for the presidential address.

(5,803 posts)In Russia we only had two TV channels. Channel One was propaganda. Channel Two consisted of a KGB officer telling you: Turn back at once to Channel One.

(3,592 posts)I think it might work. At last from broadcast networks (and FOX is network...local affiliate...not FOX News on cable). Cable news will be a sewer with that crap. Though, they can tear it appart afterward with the pundits.
You already see the FCC tryint to apply pressure and threats to networks. But if one or two fall...they'll all go togther.

(13,336 posts)I would tune into the explosive rant if not one network picks up his speech. It would be epic
it could literally kill him.
Not one network covering his speech
itll never happen.

(43,497 posts)I mean it, if everyone in the USA turns off their TV sets at approximately 9:05 p.m. the news media will all get the message loud and clear. I don't even watch much TV, but I will tonight, just so I can turn it OFF at the time he starts talking.

(9,846 posts)The large media organizations have been straddling the line between failure to inform and outright betrayal. They are now stuck in the bottom of a credibility hole that they dug for themselves, leaving them a choice between bad and worse options. No tears.

(9 posts)This will be more whining by a man who lost in 2020. He had dozens of court cases who all ruled the claims were ridiculous. Fox News had to pay $785.5 million in fines for pushing Trumps lies and it's very funny that Trump, as always, never complains about any election he or his fellow Republican's win only about when they lose. I've literally know 4 year olds who throw fewer tantrums and lie far less than this adjudicated rapist, convicted fraudster and credibly accused pedophile.

(1,567 posts)On TV Tonight and Titan TV both show their regularly scheduled programming.
Usually by this time they would be showing "Presidential Address". This includes
PBS and Fox. That's Fox TV, not the Fox News Channel.

(39,278 posts)Karoline Leavitt is devoting much of this briefing to pleading with the networks to air Trump's speech.

"This is all the more reason for all of you to carry the speech live and for the American people to tune in tonight so they can hear directly from the president and draw their own conclusions."
Leavitt ends the briefing with a teed-up question from the MyPillow guy's correspondent about why the "media is so fearful" of Trump's speech, allowing Leavitt to make her final pitch to the networks to air the primetime address.

NBC says we will provide live coverage of the presidents remarks at 9pm ET tonight on NBC News NOW. We plan to air a special report on the network following the remarks,' Stelter continued.
A spokesperson for ABC said in a statement shared with Mediaite, ABC News will run President Trumps speech on ABC News Live and ABC News Radio with comprehensive, anchored coverage. We will also cover the speech in our regular network newscasts and, as always, our Special Report team is fully prepared to break into network programming to deliver live updates and reporting should significant developments occur.
