I was promised all these things and more, with certainty , not 48 hours ago, right here on DU.

What a let down.

I expect a formal apology from those responsible.

He makes a five-year-old telling a long joke seem coherent.

Apologies to the kids.

they were promised martial law, cancelled elections, and Democrats in concentration camps by tonight (though I can't imagine WHO promised that, why that'd be ASSUMED, or why anyone would mischaracterize it as such),

but apparently a number of guests on Lawrence O'Donnell tonight didn't think Trump's "speech" was a bust.

In fact, they seemed to be in complete agreement with what I wrote herein, in that the purpose of tonight's "speech" was to set the precedent for what Donald Trump and his henchmen will surely TRY to do, come these midterms and beyond.

So, imo, I think Americans (and particularly those of us on the left who are legitimately concerned about the preservation of our democracy and unencumbered elections) have two choices:

1) to allow ourselves to be lulled asleep via denials and dismissals of concerns (expressed in fact, by many Democrats, political pundits, and observers) over what we might expect Trump and Co. to pull, or

2) to stay informed, remain vigilant, proactive, alert, and be prepared for what they may next try to do.

pile of Shite showed the world just how desperate and criminally insane he is now.

But I'm sure he will top that down the road a bit.

Superficially, it was the usual regurgitation of Biden defamation and bragadocious lies. But he also made clear that he is going to actively pursue anyone who he considers part of ‘the deep state’ that deprived him of his rightful win in 2020. It remains to be seen how far he will push this.

Personally, I think he is setting up a pretext to interfere to the extent that he can get away with in the midterms in order to avoid what he desperately wants to convince us will be a replay of election fraud. He knows that Republicans are going to lose, which could mean his impeachment, so he’ll start with voter suppression efforts (e.g., the Save America Act, which he pushed HARD tonight). Ultimately, I think his goal is to seize the ballots and election machines in order to ‘prove’ the election fraud that he claims happened. Then all hell will break loose.
