A highly relevant article:
If anyone knows the answer to their questions, its Hillary Clinton. Her career has long epitomized how misogyny can haunts female politicians: the Hillary nutcracker, the pokes about her headbands, her hair, her pantsuits, her voice. She has too often been the target of insults based on mens fear about powerful women an unenviable position that few can understand.
At least, we couldnt understand it in 2008. But thanks to the explosion of social media, everyone is a public figure, at least in a micro sense: we all have friends, followers, fans and drive-by haters. And a new generation of young female voters who have grown up being targets of digital abuse may empathize with the sexism that was and will be directed at Clinton.

Interesting observations. Thanks for posting.

(135,425 posts)The more little tools on the internet try, with lies, half-truths, bullshit invective and false assertions, to shit on Clinton, the more I support her. The snide, dismissive and patently unfair remarks which have a goal to cut into her support instead have the opposite effect.
No one likes a nasty-ass, mean and cowardly bully--not just young female voters!

(14,040 posts)Not because supporters are winning me over with their positive posts about HRC but because the negative posts are just overwhelming and sometimes awfully petty. It's the pettiness that pisses me off the most. I've written more posts defending HRC since last Sunday than I ever thought I would.

As in those who don't like President Obama.. doesn't mean they're racist. But, a lot of the rwingers are..that and brainwashed. Not always easy to tell the difference online.
And, I was talking about rwingers when I mentioned misogynists in connection to Hillary. Just so we're clear.

(363 posts)This is a difficult question for me as I enjoy going on conservative blogs and ripping them apart and fought them for many years. I enjoy automobile racing and root for Danica Patrick as she battles the male drivers who are always running into and hitting her car, but she continues on against the good old boys of nascar. Simona de Silvestro finished 4th in an indy car race last week and is 6th in points ,yet was still trying to get sponsorship to race this sunday in long beach indy car race and may not be able to race. I wish I had the answer to intimidation for others but I only get angry and aggressive with intimidators.

be the reason I vote for her.
It's all about the issues and policy for me.
Will vote for her purely to vote against her Republican opponent. Not a very exciting reason.
Everyone sees her as courageous and such a fighter. But I don't. Ohshe'll fight tenaciously about protecting the Clinton name, or her place in history, or power, but she's kind of cowardly when it comes to standing up to Wall Street or big money or AIPAC. She's just another pol to me.

Many will also go into great detail as to how society gives women all of the power. When pressed that notion is based on the fact that women have the right to say, "No".
(Which is something MGTOWs used to hear a LOT before they gave up asking and called themselves MGTOWs.)
redruddyred
(1,615 posts)normally a cesspool of misogyny in this case was right on this money with
Women do not give a FUK about MGTOW. Why? Because it is 97% made up of low value losers who they would never want to be seen with anyways. If anything, women are thankful that they no longer have to be pestered by these low valued men.
The best part about this "movement" is how if you go to any sort of MGTOW forum or subreddit, the main focus of discussion is always on, wait for it, WOMEN! HA! "Time to go my own way by jerking off to girls i wish i could bang and discussing them 24/7 on the forums! MGTOW FTW!"

(30,058 posts)Counter Hillary's record so they listen to FOX for clues I what to say. It is a form of filibuster, just keep blabbing about nothing and the time runs out. The GOP candidates are playing to their base but they do not have a platform.
LeftyMom
(49,212 posts)where the thesis is "here's what I think this group thinks, and no I didn't ask." It's lazy at best.
It's also a backbone of feminist academic work that those with a platform should amplify that voices of less powerful people rather than speaking for them, so it's really odd that Valenti is assuming what young women voters think rather than asking and then quoting them.
I'd argue that assumptions about young women's votes that don't involve their opinions about policy matters sell them short and contribute to sexist narratives that assume young women are shallow.
