Municipal Election: key propositions for parks, trails and roads

As ballots are mailed out, community members are rallying to support key propositions aimed at improving Anchorage's parks, trails, and transportation infrastructure.

Beth Nordland, the Executive Director of the Anchorage Park Foundation, encourages residents to vote for Proposition 3, a proposed $8.2 million park bond. This funding will address crucial maintenance projects at several parks, including Sand Lake Park, Goose Lake, Kincaid Midtown Park, and Sitka Street Park.

" You know, most neighborhoods have something on this bond. There's something for everyone," said Nordland. "And the way Anchorage takes care of its parks and trails with major maintenance projects is with Park bonds."

The bond will improve safety and visibility at downtown spaces like Town Square Park and Peratrovich Park. Nordland added that Prop Three will help with much-needed improvements to beloved trails and parks, and Proposition 9, which would allocate $300,000 to fund improvements at the Basher Trailhead, will enhance access to Chugach State Park through parking expansion, although it does not add walking or biking access.
