'It's already in the cards': Trump impeachment urged by WSJ editorial board member

Source: Raw Story

April 12, 2025 8:17AM ET

In a column published late Friday, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board claimed it would be "desirable" to subject Donald Trump to a third impeachment to make up for the damage he has done to the U.S. economy with his "ill-founded" trade war.

According to longtime columnist Holman W. Jenkins Jr., Trump's on-again, off-again tariff threats almost makes it appear he wants to be impeached, with Jenkins writing, "A future Trump impeachment seemed all but guaranteed by last Wednesday morning. It seems only slightly less likely now. It may even be desirable to restore America’s standing with creditors and trade partners."

As he sees it, the president's last great achievement was being re-elected in 2024, and the damage he has been creating since then belies his promise of a "golden age," so an impeachment is "already ion the cards." "No consensus or even significant coalition exists for trying to force into existence a new American 'golden age' with tariffs, which anyway is like asking a chicken to give birth to a lioness. He invented this mission out of his own confused intuition," he accused.

Noting that conservative historian Niall Ferguson labeled Trump's trade policy going "full retard," he contributed, "I go with 'neurotic' for the word’s wider applicability to any leader who, lacking a clear bead on his times, fabricates a gratuitously ambitious mission to meet his misguided sense of importance."

too many cultists in the Senate for conviction.

I think the 25th Amendment is more likely, but think it would pit the true cultists against the merely greedy, ambitious opportunitsts. I'd put Vance and Rubio in the latter category.

Here's the current cabinet

Rubio, State
Bessent, Treaury
Hegseth, SecDef
Bondi, AG
Burgum, Interior
Brooke Rollins, Ag
Lutnick, Commerce
Chaez-DeRemer, Labor
RFK, Jr, HHS
Turner, HUD
Duffy, Transportation
Wright, Energy
McMahon, Edu
Collins, VA
Noem, DHS
Zeldin, EPA
Gabbard. DNI
Ratcliff, CIA
Greer, Trade Rep
Loeffler, SBA
Vought, OMB

I think the true cultists are Hegseth, Bondi, Noem, maybe Gabbard.
I put Rubio, Bessent, Lutnick, maybe Loeffler as the merely greedy, ambitious opportunists.

Actually a size Zero since I lost 15 pounds this last year while not even trying....it IS 100% tRump related. My doctor (who is a Dem, too) completely understands. At least I can wear all the clothes I've saved since high school. The weight distribution is different but they are actually lose on my 81 pounds body. If this keeps up I'll disappear completely within the next 12 months.

You know that you are off the rails if you are a Republican (Trump) and the Wall Street Journal says that you should be impeached. Trump and MAGA are not even real Republicans. Old school Republicans were bad enough, but MAGA has basically consumed and replaced the old establishment Republican Party with a new Fascist Party. There is no place in that Party for moderate Republicans like Romney or principled Republicans like the late John McCain. The Republican Party has always had far right crackpots, but they usually did not control the Party. Establishment Republicans like Romney did. MAGA is a whole new breed of dumb, populist, far right extremists duped by the super rich tech bros and oligarchs. Trump and MAGA are a political cancer. They need to be cut out of our society.

Is acknowledge that it takes lead time to get to impeachment. During that time, he'll no doubt be criming it up with the world economy for all to see. Also to suffer the financial consequences of his unrealistic theory about tariffs. In that time, what would be going on is:

First a member of the House has to introduce a resolution for impeachment, which is sort of like introducing a bill.

Next is the House Judiciary Committee Review. Are there sufficient grounds for impeachment? That's what they have to determine.

This step alone will force them to go on record as traitors, especially after this last week's blatant insider trading display.

Next the House has to vote on the Articles of Impeachment, assuming they find sufficient cause.

After that is a Senate Trial, where Fellow Traitor Justice Roberts presides. Traitor or not, the impeachment charges are public and it will be embarrassing to try to let this go.

Finally we have the Senate Vote, where a 2/3 majority is needed to convict.

If he is removed, we get the grand prize: J.D. Vance!

But the main point I want to make with this post is that the whole time he's criming in plain sight with the world's economy, earning the disgust and approbation of even Wall Street, he has this hanging over his head. It might temper him a bit, and as Baitball Blogger points out upthread, it serves to show the world that we can maybe be trusted just a teensy weensy little bit that we still acknowledge the Constitution.

And yes, I am aware that Vance/Thiel supports a "reset with China."

I would add that if in the unlikely event Trump is impeached and we get JD Vance, at least Vance would get the message- mess around and you too can be impeached. I think Vance is pretty detestable, but he probably would be more manageable than Trump. Also, Vance is a charisma vacuum and would not inspire the MAGA base like the Trump Personality Cult does, and that is a good thing.

Ole JD is Trump's unexpected ace in the hole (or up his sleeve).
No one is going to accept Vance as president. He doesn't have it, and everybody can see it.
The cult won't buy him, his faction (the tech industry) is as popular as dog poop, he has no charisma, no experience,
radiates untrustworthiness and falseness.

We'd descend into civil war as every ambitious jackass in DC realizes YOLO & takes a run at a coup.

So it's double or nothing on impeachment.

..but if the House and Senate win back majorities in '26, maybe. And all that depends on what happens between now and '26. Will there even be an election? And if there is and Dems win, the GOP will cry foul and DOJ will agree.

I'm wondering what the MAGA plan is to screw up the election...got to know Trump isn't just hoping to maintain the current situation. Somebody somewhere, is working on a strategy to stay in control...

Trump was impeached twice, 0 consequences. He would love the attention.
He'd make millions if not billions on it.

If the Republicans are caught between factions on this and want to have an intramural war with themselves over him,
more power to them - maybe.

Their editorial board endorsed Trump in 2024. Trump is mostly doing things he said he would do and they chose not to believe him. Offering another impeachment as a remedy for their own foolishness is just more juvenile wishful thinking. Fuck the WSJ.
