Democrats joined almost all Republicans in rejecting Greene's move.
By Mariam Khan and Lauren Peller May 8, 2024, 6:25 PM
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Wednesday officially triggered a vote on her motion to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson, but within minutes Democrats joined almost all Republicans to overwhelmingly reject her move.
There were audible boos from lawmakers in the chamber as Greene spoke at length about her grievances with Johnson as she called for a vote.
The Georgia congresswoman, flanked by co-sponsor GOP Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, asserted Johnson had "not lived up to a single one" of the promises he made the Republican conference after he was elected to the top post in October.
"By passing the Democrats' agenda and handcuffing the Republicans' ability and influence legislation, our elected Republican Speaker Mike Johnson has aided and abetted the Democrats and the Biden administration in destroying our country," Greene said...

The Drama Queen of the US Congress has nothing better to do than to create more chaos.

(5,726 posts)It won't be long before I start reading online about how awful it is that Democrats "voted with Republicans." We'll be treated to yet another round of false accusations that "Democrats are secretly Republicans" and they should all be primaried. Ugh. --- How original.
It will not surprise me at all if this becomes this latest news becomes the new outrage du-jour and and yet another reason for online pundits (or those who fancy themselves as such) to begin shitting on Democrats, yet again. I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that Democrats would ever work with Republicans on anything. I mean, who needs to get things done in government, right? More chaos and disarray is what we need! 🤡

WASHINGTON (AP) Embattled Speaker Mike Johnson worked to position himself as in control Tuesday, insisting hes not negotiating with far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene as they prepared to meet again at the Capitol and she weighed whether to proceed with a vote on his ouster.
It was the second day Johnson was meeting privately with Greene, a top ally of Donald Trump, and she outlined four demands including no more funding for Ukraine as it fights Russia and an end to the Justice Department special counsels legal cases against the indicted former president.
Greene is threatening to call a vote on her motion to vacate the speaker from office, despite objections from Trump himself and fellow Republicans who want to end the chaos on Capitol Hill. Another hardline congressman, Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, backs her effort and has joined in the meetings.
Greene said she had high expectations the speaker will deliver.
This is what people all over the country are screaming for, Greene said Tuesday on Steve Bannons War Room podcast. They want to see this vote.

(4,404 posts)...weeks if not longer. And shown them to again be unworthy of leadership in the House. Don't know that even with Dem support Johnson could have been ousted, but I keep thinking anything that delays and kills GOP focus on supporting and moving forward the Trump agenda is an opportunity for Dems to resist.

(130 posts)She has become a real thorn in the side of the Republican Party. All are afraid of her...most have no use for her, but she carries a big stick because of Trump's acknowledgement of her loyalty to him. She fires off an ongoing stream of truthless, fact less, and invented BS and leaves a wake of embarrassment to all her colleagues. Ongoing damage control with MTG hanging around. GOP Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky also lends her credence to her garbage, as he is the male version of this idiot.
