WASHINGTON, July 14 (Reuters) - New York Governor Kathy Hochul called on Monday for President Donald Trump to boost federal defenses against drone attacks, saying events like the World Cup and the U.S. 250th anniversary celebrations are "prime targets."
She noted that next summer, "the New York area will be the epicenter for multiple high-profile events, including the World Cup, the flotilla of Tall Ships, International Naval Review, the largest ever Macy's fireworks show, and America's 250th birthday celebration, which will present prime targets."
"We need a comprehensive federal strategy that not only dramatically improves drone detection capabilities nationally but also provides robust, multi-layered mitigation measures," Hochul said in a letter to Trump released on Monday. She said the government needed to do a better job of protecting "critical infrastructure like population centers, utilities, and military assets."
Hochul urged the White House to take action, citing a series of incidents last year and the mounting use of drones in the war in Ukraine and other trouble spots around the world.
The White House did not immediately comment.

Since I don't follow soccor, I have no idea how many stadiums across the world have permanent, or retractable roofs.
You (Rhetorical) going to tell me all those hot, tropical countries have roofed stadiums?

I guess if any games were to be played in places like AZ or TX, I would definitely want a domed stadium!
Since most of the world plays it and the U.S. is still relatively fledgling, other countries probably have both indoor and outdoor stadiums/indoor arenas for it. I don't think the arena here for hockey/basketball (Wells Fargo Center, soon to be named Xfinity Mobile Arena) is big enough for a (I guess "regulation" ) soccer field.

(22,337 posts)I love Phillidelphia. 🧡
My sis went to graduate school for a year. I used to visit her. She lived where a trolley turned her corner, but got used to it!
Then we'd go back every year or so like 15 yrs+. Loved to go to the area with cool clothing shops, and a then fabulous craft store called "The Works". 🥰 and the Italian Market.
Of course, saw the Liberty Bell once. The Art Museum! 🧡 Bunch of other cool places. Had to have a Philly cheese steak once. 👍 And one of the *only beers* I ever liked- Samuel Adam's Pale Summer Ale.
So many great memories!
A soccer memory....
When I was a kid we'd visit a very big park in The Bronx. We were part Greek-Americans. In tbat Park we'd see the Greek-Americans, the Italian-Americans kicking a soccer ball around. 👍
Oh, and while at a different time went down to The Spectrum on a cold Nov night w a friend to stand up all night for The Who tickets in the morning! 😄
Other friends of ours who arrived earlier - brought a tent! 😄😄😄

(156,458 posts)The Spectrum (and JFK Stadium - since this was the 40th anniversary of Live Aid that was played there), AND Veteran's Stadium (where the Eagles and Phillies played previously) got bowled down to make way for Lincoln Financial Field (Eagles), Citizen's Bank Park (Phillies), and the Wells Fargo Center (formerly the Corestates Center, then the First Union Center, then Wachovia Center, then Wells Fargo Center ) for the Sixers/Flyers.
Soccer has finally taken off in the U.S. over the past 40 years big time (particularly with the kids to get them accustomed to it since they can just learn to play with a big field and a single net).

(156,458 posts)when I was in 6th grade. My class was part of the "World Affairs Council" here in Philly and that meant that we spent each month engaged with some kind of programming and/or giving presentations, on "global affairs" (including going to other schools in the district to present things). At the end of the year, our "reward" was a trip to the U.N., where we could go inside and sit in the General Assembly Hall in what I think was one of the media booths and try out the translation headphones. Looked sortof like this where you could look down on the auditorium (without video screens or computers because we are talking well over 50 years ago)!
It was a pretty cool experience!!

(22,337 posts)I went there, too. Waaaay back 60 yrs or so. It must have been w school, and I think we also sat in the booth bc I have a memory of the headphones on, and switching a ?knob to hear the other languages. 👍
Been there since then, but not for a long time.
