House GOP blocks Dem maneuver to force release of Epstein files
Source: axios

House Republicans on Monday night voted against attaching a Democratic amendment to landmark cryptocurrency legislation that would force the Justice Department to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Why it matters: It's the outcome Democrats anticipated, and one they plan to gleefully cite as President Trump continues to grapple with the MAGA fallout over the DOJ's handling of the documents.
"The question with Epstein is: Whose side are you on?" Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), the author of the Epstein measure, told Axios ahead of the vote.
"Are you on the side of the rich and powerful, or are you on the side of the people?" he said, promising to introduce the amendment "again and again and again."

(296 posts)is loaded with high-profile Democrat names. Democrats know that if the client list exists, Donnie the Child Molester is at the top.
The main thing is that, in the absence of the list, everything else is just conspiracy and speculation. MAGAts have been groomed to accept these "alternate facts" as reality. Dems leaning into it is like throwing gas on the MAGAt fire.
I'm going to make some popcorn and pull up a chair. This will be fun to watch.

(32,566 posts)Why would Republicans block the release if Democrats
are on it?
Hmmm
Dr. T
(296 posts)a client list.
If thats true, then the FBI can't release something that doesn't exist. But MAGAts will keep digging even if it's a dry hole. It will consume them and hopefully drain their energy until the MAGAt movement disappears like a fart in the wind.

Republicans in Congress just BLOCKED the release of the Epstein files in the middle of the night while you were asleep. Every Democrat on the House Rules Committee voted for it while Republicans voted against it. They are running cover for Trump and hoping you wouldnt notice.

Heres the article on it. They did this in the middle of the night hoping the American people wouldnt notice. Unfortunately for them, we did. And I wont stop talking about it.

(3,303 posts)or no real news at all. They have listened and watched that shit for decades and they believe it is the truth. Right-wing media is specifically designed for people who are closed minded and get addicted to things quickly and for the lowest of the bottom-dweller racists and haters.
Democrats, liberals and progressives should have responded with our own 'news" and with the same ferocity as the right. We never did and still haven't, so here we are. I believe it is that simple.

(3,384 posts)We are at a disadvantage with news, since we like to tell the truth!
Would a liberal news channel deliberately distort the truth? Would we find one or two stories about something crazy in a red state and run that over and over and over again? I doubt it.
Sometimes, the truth is boring. Competence is boring. We are handicapped in everything!

(3,303 posts)I think a majority of the country is starved for that. Yes, MSNBC is good, but it is a peep in a room full of bigmouths. They too are also under right-wing influence through NBC.
The playing field has changed. There is no more non-partisan news anymore. They are systematically destroying NPR as we speak. It's all one sided and the loudest voice with the most money wins.
We all long for the days of the boring old news where you just got the facts and made up your own mind, but those days are gone. We need to be fighting fire with fire. Maybe use their own marketing tactics, except with the truth.

(116 posts)I mean, come on. Lots of noise, bluster and fury over 2020, but not an iota of actual evidence ever presented in any one of the 60 plus court cases, yet he's still going on about it. The hundreds of classified docs that he fought tooth and nail to hide and keep from the gov't, the whole thing with Stormy and E.J. Carroll, the 34 financial fraud convictions - never mind that what little that is out there with Epstein has how many photos/vids of himself palling around with the guy, along with the young women? And they continue to eat it up like candy. What kind of a gullible fool does one have to be to still, at this late date, not start to question that they've been played, up, down and sideways. It boggles the mind.

(335 posts)Accountability. Every single Republican that voted to end food for hungry kids, kick 17 million people of health care, etc. needs to pay the price in 2026.
1) Dems win the house and senate in 2026, flip red states blue (most notably Texas - people here are angry at the GOP - never seen so much energy to kick the bastards out), and win up and down the ballot.
2) The convicted felon is impeached a third time. This time the Democratic majority in the Senate votes to convict. This is not the only impeachment, however. There are many more, notably Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
3) Most of the executives in the Executive Branch run afoul of the emoluments clause (it applies to all federal office holders after all), Leading those removed from office? J. D. Vance, K. Noem and "Whiskey Pete" Hegseth.
4) In 2027, the Speaker of the House (Democrat Hakeem Jefferies) assumes the role of POTUS.
5) The decades long road to rebuild our democracy begins.
