Number missing from devastating Texas floods drops sharply to 3, officials say

The number of people missing in Texas Hill Country following the deadly flooding which struck the region over the Fourth of July holiday weekend has plummeted significantly, officials announced Saturday.

The Kerr County Flood Disaster Joint Information Center determined that three people are still missing from the floods, the city of Kerrville said in a news release. That is a sharp drop from the approximately 100 people authorities had previously said were unaccounted for.

"Through extensive follow-up work among state and local agencies, many individuals who were initially reported as missing have been verified as safe and removed from the list," the city said in its news release. "This has been an ongoing effort as investigators worked diligently to verify reports of missing persons and confirm their status."

Kerrville is the county seat of Kerr County, which was hard-hit by the historic flooding. It is located about 60 miles northwest of San Antonio. "We are profoundly grateful to the more than 1,000 local, state, and federal authorities who have worked tirelessly in the wake of the devastating flood that struck our community," Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice said in a statement. "Thanks to their extraordinary efforts, the number of individuals previously listed as missing has dropped from over 160 to three."

Texas Bible-based schooling is pretty poor, but I thought at least they learned to count. Even past 10.
(The concept of zero will forever remain elusive. It is never mentioned in the Bible, but thank Allah for Arabic numerals.)

Someone pranked some state legislators by asking them if schools should be teaching Arabic Numerals. Of course some of the more conservative members were totally opposed. One even said that the Founding Fathers were opposed to the idea.

6. A large drop in the estimate of the number of missing people after a disaster is actually typical.

This also happened after the flooding following Hurricane Helene.

8. Thank you for that information. But that does not change the fact that

the "officials" in that area shredded their credibility a long time ago. Are they telling the truth now? "Boy who cried wolf" comes to mind.

I had a guy tell me that Florida and Texas are the only "free" states now, after Gretchen Whitmer won again and Michigan Legislature turned blue a couple years ago. He had been drinking at the time.

10. They know that 135 people died in the flood, but 3 more are still unaccounted for

Once they are found, we'll know whether they are alive or dead. Sometimes people do make it out alive, and for whatever reason it takes time to contact their families.

This is still a tragedy and it seems that a lot of people could have been saved with the proper procedures in place.

14. The article doesn't say how many people were found, it says that 135 died in the flood

...and 3 are still unaccounted for. I guess they are still looking for those 3.
