'Get over it': some middle America Trump supporters remain unfazed over Epstein files tumult

Source: The Guardian

First published on Sun 27 Jul 2025 06.00 EDT

It has united luminaries of the far right, from media personality Tucker Carlson to activist Laura Loomer, from tech billionaire Elon Musk to congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. Typically unwavering in support of Donald Trump, all have criticised his administration’s handling of files about the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

But in towns and cities across the US, a more complicated and nuanced picture emerges, serving as a reminder that – like any other political constituency – Trump voters are not a monolith. Some of the US president’s supporters are undoubtedly animated by the Epstein issue and urging Congress to push for greater transparency. “It’s the number one phone call that we get. By far,” Eric Burlison, a Republican congressman from Missouri, told CNN this week. “It’s probably 500 to one.”

But others seem to be shrugging off the crisis as they have so many others that seemed to threaten Trump’s political career. They remain fiercely loyal to a president they believe is delivering low inflation, strong border security and sweeping reversals of progressive policies. They are willing to take White House advice to “trust in Trump”.

That was the prevailing mood this week in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a former steel town and Democratic stronghold that swung heavily for Trump in last November’s election. “Trump is right about everything, no matter what he does,” was the blunt take of Teddy, 55, wearing a Stars and Stripes hat and sitting on a bench in Central Park in downtown Johnstown. “Epstein – he’s dead, that’s it, it’s over.”

These are people who are fully in the cult and it would be fruitless wasting time on them - at least while 45 is still around. The latter example in the OP about some in Johnstown, PA would be the same people who kept John Murtha (D), in office in the seat that covered Johnston, for DECADES. But right now, they are completely hypnotized.

I’m supposed to continue believing that Trump’s “wins” in 2016 and 2024 were totally on the up-and-up and that these podunk Nazi opinions had something to do with it.

Screw that. The f**ker was installed.

It won't.
There's a crap load of money behind the hate and power trump puts forth, and money is sadly everything now.

Newsom's got the right approach on trump. He's not focusing on one thing, but the whole picture.

Focusing on epstein will be a can't see the forest for the trees election. I'm a Californian, and not sold on Newsom as President because it will be a tough sell to red states, but the party needs to listen to him.

I have encountered callous far-right-wing men who have zero concern and even less understanding of the issues. As soon as they utter something that lets me know how they feel, I cannot get away from them fast enough (not that I feel personally threatened in the moment, but rather I want to send a message that they are irredeemable in my mind).

Instead of speaking substantively, after spending time with the usual lies and insults, Trump asked for music and on the stage for no apparent reason stopped talking and started swaying to the music for about 30-40 minutes. After the event was over, a reporter walking around for audience reactions came across one couple who I would guess were in their 60's. The woman said something like "Well, I would have liked if he'd talked more about policy" (not that it would change her vote of course!), but the man's statement was truly frightening. With a stupid grin on his face, he said "he didn't have to say anything. I enjoyed his swaying. I could just look at him swaying for hours!"

Steelworkers in PA are very happy with Trump's tariffs. Farmers in Iowa are not happy with Trump.

People who are not happy with Trump's impact on their personal finances are more likely to criticize Trump for other things. People who feel that his policies are working for them are not going to care much about Epstein.

All this talk about morality is mostly b.s. Most people don't care.

That was the prevailing mood this week in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a former steel town and Democratic stronghold that swung heavily for Trump in last November’s election.

Johnstown is in Cambria County.

The last time Cambria County voted for a Democrat was 2000: Al Gore pulled a narrow win. Bush won it in 2004. McCain won it in 2008. Romney won it in 2012. Trump won it in 2016. Trump won it in 2020. Trump won it in 2024. Did it "swing heavily for Trump" in "last November's election?" Well, swing is a relative term, I suppose. Trump won Cambria County with 66% in 2016. He won with 68% in 2020. He won with 69% in 2024. So, it "swung" from Trump 68% to Trump 69%. Those are the facts. Now let's look at the framing again:

That was the prevailing mood this week in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a former steel town and Democratic stronghold that swung heavily for Trump in last November’s election.

Was Johnstown a former steel town. Well, yes.
Was it a former Democratic stronghold? Perhaps many years ago. Even when Gore won it, it could hardly be called a Democratic stronghold. I view this claim as dishonest.
Did it "swing heavily for Trump in last November's election?" No. It voted heavily for Trump as it has done for the last three elections. It also voted heavily for Romney.

OK, qualifiers: I did not drill down into the Johnstown data to distinguish it from Cambria county more generally. But anyone who knows anything about PA and PA politics would laugh out loud to hear Johnstown described as a Democratic stronghold. Maybe 50 years ago.

DNA testing reveals a surprising amount of close relative incest. I imagine that people who are okay with defilement have some close-up personal experience, and not just trafficked strangers.

It lays out in the Bible about who you can 'lay with'. But the same people who are shoving the Bible down our throats routinely ignore the guidelines within.

increased weekly groceries would have more effect on magats than where his penis has been. Of all the shit this guy has been in, they still don't care where his penis has been. He's already proven it with others in the past. Magats don't care.

I do however, think that a large amount have now changed their minds on what a huge mistake they made by voting for him. Would they do it again, if they had a chance? Probably.

So all of this bullshit over Epstein is probably doing nothing, except Maxwell will get a pardon and have to keep her mouth shut.

It's so sad what is going on in this country.

Just imagine if this whole story was about a famous democrat.

He has proven once again it don't matter how much shit you throw at the wall... It NEVER sticks. And all these corrupt asswipes that insure it never sticks.

Where Trump could quite literally shoot someone on 5th avenue and get away with it....as far as his base is concerned.

If he can be charged with statutory rape, get 34 felonies for cheating in business, lead an insurrection, including pardoning all who participated, steal top secret classified documents and lie to FBI about having them......and now diddling young girls on an island with his pedo pal Jeffery for years..

If none of that matters then the US is already in a dictatorship at least for MAGA. They have already accepted that a far right dictatorship is what is needed for their country. Someone to do all the vile things they want done but can't admit it or say it.

so they'll stick with the politician enacting the most racist policies. They knew he was a rapist in 2024, and they still voted for him. For some, his victims being teenagers rather than a woman around 50 is a crime too far, for others, they're misogynist anyway, so no-one female really counts to them, whatever their age.

"Nuanced" is far too generous a term for "they all have their limits of what crimes they'll accept, and we haven't found the limit yet for some".

Inside the Trump Slump: Young, Latino and Independent Voters Sour on Trump

To keep control of the House in a midterm cycle that would typically see voters punishing the party in power, Republicans will need to keep the coalition that powered Trump to victory in 2024 — most notably Latinos, young voters, and independents — lashed together.

The Cook Political Report’s newly relaunched PollTracker, a polling aggregator that calculates a rolling daily average of Trump’s approval rating and tracks his standing within key demographic subgroups, already shows how Trump’s support with these key groups is sliding.

Trump is a pedophile.

Here are all of the Epstein Files that have either been leaked or released.

https://joshwho.net/EpsteinList/black-book-unredacted.pdf (verified pre-Bondi) Trump is on page 85, or pdf pg. 80

Trump’s name is circled. The circled individuals are the ones involved in the trafficking ring according to the person who originally released the book. These people would be “The List “ Here is the story.
