Minnesota National Guard activated, state of emergency declared after cyberattack against St. Paul

Source: KSTP (ABC affiliate)

Local, state and federal agencies are investigating a cyberattack against the City of St. Paul.

Governor Tim Walz on Tuesday announced he has activated the Minnesota National Guard to assist in the response to the attack, at the city’s request.

According to the Governor’s Office, “the magnitude and complexity of the cybersecurity incident have exceeded the city’s response capacity.”

At a news conference on Tuesday, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter said the city has declared a local state of emergency to address the attack. The city also retained two national firms and activated its emergency operations center.

if this is more than a ransomware attack, it might be a 'proof of concept' operation from Putin or Xi.

Its a lot more common than you'd think, just normally its not bad enough that they have to inform the public. This looks like they got hit really bad though.

Very suspicious. Local governments are particularly vulnerable to cyberattacks due to aging IT systems and budgetary limitations.

They want money, they find a vulnerability, they exploit it, then they start making demands. Its just blind greed. We deal with it for like 2000 clients a year at my job. Its usually no more nefarious than the mafia asking for protection money. Its still a crime, but its usually not state actors. They're much more sophisticated.

That military or intelligence operations are responsible. Maga mind worm is everywhere. There are millions of Republicans that would happily burn this country to ash just because the Mango Mussolini told them to do it.

The Right Wingnuts are *so* triggered by a blue state existing in the midwest they thought was theirs that they just have to do something to own the libs by "proving" that government can't work.
.
And last year's national prominence for that bleeding heart, school-child-feeding, tampon-providing threat-to-their-toxic-masculinity governor Walz really got their goat, so what better than to strike at its capital city with its African American mayor.
