Kamala Harris says she's not running for California governor
Source: The Hill
Former Vice President Harris announced on Wednesday that she will not run for governor of California, putting an end to speculation that she would seek her states top executive role after her loss to President Trump in November.
In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their Governor. I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, Ive decided that I will not run for Governor in this election, Harris said in a statement.
The former vice president said she spent time reflecting over the past six months since losing in November after she took over the Democratic ticket when former President Biden dropped out of the race.
I have extraordinary admiration and respect for those who dedicate their lives to public serviceservice to their communities and to our nation. At the same time, we must recognize that our politics, our government, and our institutions have too often failed the American people, culminating in this moment of crisis, Harris said. As we look ahead, we must be willing to pursue change through new methods and fresh thinkingcommitted to our same values and principles, but not bound by the same playbook.
Harris was considering all her options before making her decision official, while she has made it clear that she is not done with public service,

The playbook of America sucks. It literally has racism and sexism in the paper pulp.
Getting rid of the structures requires a willingness to fight dirty. She's a good, decent woman - but she might have heard the call to fight dirty and ho-hum advisors warned her off.

(154,645 posts)It would have looked like she felt that she had to do something to overcome her presidential loss. I felt that this would be seen as getting the second-best job.
The candidates who are running are no doubt relieved as well.
I've been supporting Katie Porter all along and this move by Kamala Harris just opens up a better prospect for Katie.
I respect Kamala Harris and I hope to be able to support her in some other endeavor!

(1,394 posts)but like others I don't want her to run for POTUS again. For whatever inexplicable reason she didn't beat that POS and well....no do overs as far as I'm concerned. Was it the misogyny? More than likely, but again: she had her shot.

(6,609 posts)If she wins, she's absolutely earned it. If someone else wins, that's the will of the Dem voters.

(559 posts)In 2024, Kamala Harris turned a completely doomed campaign into a near win. She showed incredible intelligence and compassion. Always with a smile. She made a complete fool of Trump in the debate. She always did her homework, was always full of energy, and showed she has the temperament to be President. Unlike some, I think 2028 will be a good time for a woman to run because most people will be looking for the complete opposite of Trump. I am certainly one of those people (disclaimer: I'm a straight white male who is tired of putting stupid straight white males (SSWM) in charge). There are others I hope will run for President, too; like AOC or Jasmine Crockett, but I would be so happy to vote for Kamala.
So please Kamala, give us another chance!

I really thought Harris was going to run. This is disappointing, but certainly understandable.

(29 posts)Repubs and, unfortunately, some Dems would have had a dirt slinging feast with her running for that office. I hope that she will find a position that will make her a lot of money while maintaining her status as a brilliant role model for us all.
