Mayor Eric Adams re-election campaign submitted faked and fraudulently obtained petition signatures in his effort to secure a spot on the November ballot as an independent candidate, a Gothamist investigation has found.
Gothamist reviewed signatures submitted from across New York City and found people who said their names were forged, as well as people who said they were deceived into signing the petitions. In at least three instances, the campaign turned in signatures from dead people.
Under state law, Adams needed to submit at least 7,500 signatures from voters who wanted him on the general election ballot . The tactic enabled the incumbent mayor to avoid a race that was shaping up as a referendum on the federal corruption charges he once faced and his growing ties to President Donald Trump.
The Adams campaign hired several companies to deploy employees across the city and gather signatures of registered voters in New York City who supported the mayor's re-election.

(5,958 posts)Notice that he's never tagged as the "deeply unpopular" mayor, even though his approval rating has hovered in the low 30s and even hit the 20s!
He has no constituency, except maybe the trolls who attack Mamdani on the occasion when they're too embarrassed to support sex pest Cuomo.

(36,892 posts)table to run as a spoiler candidate to keep the primary choice candidate from winning. My question is, who is funding him?
Nearly every capitalist in NY is terrified of Mamdami, especially the billionaires. Also the NY Democratic establishment, Im sorry to say.
For sure, the billionaires must be financing. Ill be on the lookout for donation info.
Somebodys hand must be hurting. Police tip: the culprit will be wearing a hand brace!

(38,335 posts)I would imagine that most of the canvassing these days is done by email and phone, rather than door-to-door.
Post-Covid canvassing work requirements have really changed the ballgame in the last 5 years. It must be difficult to collect those signatures, even though they might (possibly) be legitimate voters.
