Trump Orders Subs Closer to Russia in Rare Nuclear Threat

President Trump said on his social media feed on Friday that he had “ordered two nuclear submarines to be positioned” in regions within reach of Russia, a rare threat of nuclear escalation that he said was prompted by online threats from Russia’s former president, Dmitri Medvedev.

Mr. Trump said he had ordered the submarines “to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.” He added: Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances.”

Mr. Medvedev, who often serves as something of an online attack dog for the Kremlin, had said in a social media post of his own on Thursday that Mr. Trump should picture the apocalyptic television series “The Walking Dead” and referred to the Soviet Union’s system for launching a last-ditch, automatic nuclear strike.

Because nuclear submarine movements are among the Pentagon’s most closely held tactical maneuvers, it will most likely prove impossible to know if Mr. Trump is truly repositioning the submarines, or just trying to make a point.

...adversary knows that resolve and determination exist in conjunction with that force or not. This sort of childishly stupid verbal one-upsmanship is equally what was wrong with what was W's "Bring It On!" approach to "the war on terror" and what is wrong with Trump's current announcement-based policy approach. Moreover, this clearly moves defense policy into the realm of TACO, and that is dangerous because TACO implies a lack of both resolve and determination. Everyone knows that Trump is constitutionally weak in mind, body, and spirit.

If there actually have been "repositionings" of submarines, hopefully Vodka Pete has not been discussing it on Signal or whatever unsecured channels he has decided to use out of his lazy ignorance and lack of discipline.

Justice matters.

AND ON BOTH SIDES

Russian subs have been seen surfacing near Cape Cod's shores. What's more worrisome is, their "stealth" systems shield their detection (the Navy has similar "stealth" gear, btw).

The "end" of the "Cold War" was a lie. It never ended BUT talks about it still ongoing stopped.

Boomers can reach Russia no matter where they are located.

Stealth is their primary defense. Even hinting at a sub's location puts them in danger. Of course to Trump they are just props in his cheesy realty show.

People need to follow this closely- moving subs doesn’t happen for no reason.

From The Guardian:

Trump moves nuclear submarines after ex-Russia president’s menacing tweet

Order comes after president’s anger at tweet from Dmitry Medvedev which called Trump’s threat to sanction Russia over Ukraine a ‘step towards war’

Putin offers no hint of concessions as he says he wants ‘stable’ peace in Ukraine

Donald Trump has said that he has deployed nuclear-capable submarines to the “appropriate regions” in response to a threatening tweet by Russia’s former president Dmitry Medvedev, suggesting that he would be ready to launch a nuclear strike as tensions rise over the war in Ukraine.

In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump wrote that he had decided to reposition the nuclear submarines because of “highly provocative statements” by Medvedev, noting he was now the deputy chairman of Russia’s security council.

Medvedev had earlier said that Trump’s threats to sanction Russia and a recent ultimatum were “a threat and a step towards war”.

“I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,” Trump responded. “Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances.”

He did not specify whether he was referring to nuclear-powered or nuclear-armed submarines.

Asked later by reporters why he ordered the submarine movement, Trump said: “A threat was made by a former president of Russia and we’re going to protect our people.”
