Trump's Domestic Use of Military Set to Get Worse, Leaked Memo Shows

Source: The New Republic

President Donald Trump has already enmeshed the United States military in domestic law enforcement operations involving immigration to an unprecedented degree. He has authorized a major military buildup at the border. He has maximized the use of military planes for deportations, complete with the White House pumping out imagery of migrants getting frog-marched onto souped-up military aircraft. He sent the National Guard into Los Angeles amid large-scale protests there—and then sent in the Marines.

But an internal memo circulated inside the Department of Homeland Security suggests that Trump’s use of the military for domestic law enforcement on immigration could soon get worse. The memo—obtained by The New Republic—provides a glimpse into the thinking of top officials as they seek to involve the Defense Department more deeply in these domestic operations, and it has unnerved experts who believe it portends a frightening escalation.

The memo lays out the need to persuade top Pentagon officials to get much more serious about using the military to combat illegal immigration—and not just at the border. It suggests that DHS is anticipating many more uses of the military in urban centers, noting that L.A.-style operations may be needed “for years to come.” And it likens the threat posed by transnational gangs and cartels to having “Al Qaeda or ISIS cells and fighters operating freely inside America,” hinting at a ramped-up militarized posture inside the interior.

“The memo is alarming, because it speaks to the intent to use the military within the United States at a level not seen since Japanese internment,” Carrie Lee, senior fellow at the German Marshall Fund, told me. “The military is the most powerful, coercive tool our country has. We don’t want the military doing law enforcement. It absolutely undermines the rule of law.”

I can see this morphing into something really bad. Throwing in buzz words like, "Isis," and, "Al Qaeda," here to get MAGAts riled up, and accepting of Nazi rule. Talking about protecting the, "homeland," against imaginary internal terrorists sounds much too familiar.

I would say if military officials continue to be unconvinced and resistant they will be fired.

Its sickening to see how quickly our country has sailed off the edge of the world.

Justice matters.

The parallels are frightening.

The only hope is the age difference between the two demons.

Nature is going to take care of the current one sooner than it would have with the other (iow, the sooner the better).

The only way that happens is a violent overthrow. We arent getting it back without violence. We need to all come to that realization. They are not giving up power, again. They made that mistake last time, and still killed people in the process, and he walks free.

The U.S. military leadership (the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and NORTHCOM) need to feel — for the first time — the urgency of the homeland defense mission. They need to understand the threat, what’s at stake, and the political importance the administration has placed on this issue.

It seems that the administration believes “the U.S. military leadership” isn’t on board. They need to be persuaded, and one of their BS reasons is its "political importance.” Good luck selling the military on the political need to deploy troops on domestic soil.

They allowed Sina Loa cartel family members to enter our country after a secret deal. Their hopped up militarization is to control us when we finally riot in the streets. They think we are stupid and can't see past their lies.

Eff them all.

And, they will, because we are going to sit here and complain mightily about it. We are not going to do what we will need to do to stop this attack on our society because we are still convinced that the 'high road' is not going to just dump us into hell from a higher altitude.

Every day these animals are plotting to not only remake the country into an oligarchy-run serfdom, they are going to obfuscate their actions by getting rid of 'undesirables', which, to them, includes anyone that disagrees with them. 'Playing by the rules' is idiotic when the rules are only being acknowledged by one side.

Are we going to sit and let it happen? Because judicial rulings are being ignored. Now what?

Americans have been willing to pay for tanks and guns but that will change when soldiers point them at civilians. The military knows this which is why their operations on US soil has always been limited.

For his years in the US Air Force(1962 to 1966), as well for 18 years in the MN Army(2 1/2 years) and finishing with the MN Air Nat. Guard from 1981 until the end of November of 1999. It would literally piss him of to know that the very US Military is being used AGAINST immigrants and citizens alike.

ANY Veteran who supports Trump should feel disgust as they see their benefits reduced and their service dragged through the mud as this mad man uses HIS Military for the wrong reasons. When will they say "enough is enough"?
