'They roll right over': Many Democrats call their party weak and ineffective, AP-NORC poll finds

WASHINGTON (AP) — Many Democrats see their political party as “weak” or “ineffective,” according to a poll that finds considerable pessimism within Democratic ranks. Republicans are more complimentary of their party, although a small but significant share describe the GOP as “greedy” or say it is generally “bad.”

The poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research in July reveals warning signs for both major U.S. parties as the political focus shifts to elections in New Jersey and Virginia this fall and the midterm contests next year.

Respondents were asked to share the first word or phrase that came to mind when they thought of the Republican and Democratic parties. Answers were then sorted into broad categories, including negative and positive attributes. Overall, U.S. adults held a dim view of both parties, with about 4 in 10 using negative attributes, including words such as “dishonest” or “stupid.”

But nearly nine months after Republican Donald Trump won a second presidential term, Democrats appear to be harboring more resentment about the state of their party than do Republicans. Democrats were likelier to describe their own party negatively than Republicans. Republicans were about twice as likely to describe their own party positively.

the Dems need to get their ranks to close and hold steady. They need to ALL grow backbones and hold firm on their beliefs and if they have to make the unifying call "saving the Consitiution" then do so!

Second, once they can get cohesive and hold some solid stance on things, they can start peeling off repubs that are wobbly and on the fence about this whole shitshow. The R's are starting to crack, but we can only get those people peeled off if we have a cohesive agenda and vision. All this scattered energy is wasteful...Bernie's on about Oligarchs, Booker is calling out hypocrisy on the floor etc... if there was a unifying thread, they might have a shot at actually shifting the agenda/narratives.

But whining and strongly worded letters are over. It's time for our reps to get mad and get organized. Or it's time for US to get down and dirty in the streets...

We need to look at what they do. At what they did when Democrats had the White House, the House, and the Senate.

They complained about everything.
They turned everything into a scandal or a controversy.
They framed the debate.

They certainly weren’t doing “smiling more is my resistance” or writing books about it.

And they won.

Senators representing as little as 11% of the population can block any legislation.

asking why Congress's polls are down isn't helping. It exacerbates the situation. We failed them, somehow. We didn't vote. They need to change tactics. All Republicans are the enemy, until they're not. Especially in the Senate, they're not your friend from across the aisle. They smile in your face while stabbing you in the back. We wouldn't have the SC situation now if fights were fought harder back then. It's too late to write letters demanding anything. You don't have the power and that's our fault.
No matter who the party leaders are, they are going to get the blame but when you're back in power, don't be nice, make new rules, take out the trash.

The Felon has no shame but some of those feckless Republicans might still remember what integrity felt like, shame the f.ck out of them. Don't give them a shoulder to cry on. Shun them. Any Dem that doesn't row with the rest should be on that list as well. Stop talking just to hear yourself. Don't fake passion. It looks worse. Support those that are passionate and genuinely angry in their delivery. Does anybody question Bernie's sincerity?

Anyway, just a few thoughts.

I previously posted this in response to a previous similar post.
