Loni Anderson, 'WKRP in Cincinnati' Star, Dies at 79

Source: Hollywood Reporter

Loni Anderson, who starred as the shrewd radio station receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on WKRP in Cincinnati before her fairy-tale marriage to and acrimonious divorce from Burt Reynolds kept her uncomfortably in the tabloids, died Sunday. She was 79.

A two-time Emmy nominee, Anderson died in Los Angeles following “an acute prolonged illness,” publicist Cheryl J. Kagan announced.

The Minnesota native also portrayed doomed Hollywood sex sirens in two telefilms: 1980’s The Jayne Mansfield Story — alongside an untested Arnold Schwarzenegger as her second husband, Mickey Hargitay — and 1991’s White Hot: The Mysterious Murder of Thelma Todd.

And from 1988-90, she toplined TV movie remakes of the classic films Leave Her to Heaven (in the Gene Tierney role), Sorry, Wrong Number (in the Barbara Stanwyck part) and Three Coins in the Fountain).

I read his infatuation with a cocktail waitress led to their divorce.

she was all over TV and her marriage to Burt Reynolds kept her in the spotlight. She was one of the group of "pin up" stars during that time (along with Farrah Fawcett, Suzanne Somers, Cheryl Tiegs, Cheryl Ladd, etc).

Sorry to see this, condolences to her family, and R.I.P.

(as a sidenote, that show always made me want to visit the city and I did in fact get there for work stuff in the late '80s - and one of my sisters ended up moving out there not far from the city, so I was there all the time, and even walked over a bridge to Covington, KY )

They are all from the same generation!

It was heartbreaking about the cancer that took her life.

I have naturally wavy hair and it's thick.

I was able to get "the Farah" for decades, then a generation of young stylists didn't know how to do it! They kept trying to give me the "Jennifer Aniston" instead. It didn't work.

In high school, I read that Cher "ironed her hair straight". So, what did I do? I got out my ironing board! Eventually, I resorted to chemically straightening it. In college, I would straighten it with pubic restroom hand blowers. However, Farah's hair worked for me! No more straightening!

Around, 2014 I found stylist who was able to do the "Farah" and I've been with her since!

if you didn't want to use those huge pink curlers.

I remember having some version of Miss Clairol hot rollers like these -

Then you could get some kind of "swept back" look (that would stay if you put enough hairspray on it).

Regarding Farrah, According to Wikipedia, “… She and her husband, television star Lee Majors, were frequent tennis partners with producer Aaron Spelling. Spelling and his business partner eventually chose Fawcett to play Jill Munroe in their upcoming made-for-TV movie, Charlie's Angels, a movie of the week which aired on March 21, 1976, on ABC. …”

According to Wikipedia She married Lee Majors in 1973, having dated him since the late sixties.

To me, she was always Farrah Fawcett-Majors.

and then all kinds of people rotated in and out of Charlie's Angels when she left.

But see I was hooked on this during that era too (Bill Bixby fan) -

Of course Marvel resurrected that character.
