Penske Calls Out DHS for Using Its Rental Trucks During Immigration Raids in LA: We 'Did Not Authorize This'

Source: MEDIAite

Aug 6th, 2025, 2:54 pm

Penske Truck Rental released a statement Wednesday condemning the Department of Homeland Security for using its truck in an immigration raid. On Wednesday morning, DHS agents traveled to a Home Depot in the McArthur Park area of Los Angeles. The purpose of the visit, according to Fox News reporter Matt Finn, was to conduct “early morning immigration enforcement.”

“The area was filled with migrants who scattered,” Finn added. “DHS says MS 13 has a chokehold on this area, which is one reason they’re carrying out the highly optic immigration raids. 16 taken into custody.”

In the video, DHS agents wearing vests can be seen packed into the back of a rental truck. As soon as one of the agents opened the truck, the rest of them poured out, and a chaotic scene outside quickly unfolded. Several of the agents immediately ran after the fleeing migrants.

In a statement obtained by Los Angeles Times reporter Brittny Mejia, Penske made it clear that the company did not authorize the use of its trucks for the operation: Penske Truck Rental is aware of recent reports and videos regarding a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) operation in Los Angeles. Penske strictly prohibits the transportation of people in the cargo area of its vehicles under any circumstances.

Patriot Front is known to use Penske (and U-Haul) rental box trucks to transport their hoodlums.

Rented hundreds of cars and trucks with my federal government travel card, none ever required that we tell them specifically what we were going to do with the vehicle. Most of the time in later years we just booked them online.

6. So it's actually possible that nobody in the company knew?

That makes zero sense to me.

Isn't it important to know what your trucks are being used for,
for legan and criminal liability purposes?

And even if they did ask, do you think a criminal would tell the truth? I'm pretty sure Timothy McVeigh, if asked, wouldn't have told Hertz that he was going to use the truck to blow up a federal building.

...they had people in the back?

I didn't read this as they put the detainees in the Penske trucks and hauled them away, I read it as the ICE agents were transported to the Home Depot in the back of the truck. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.
