Beto O'Rourke Trashes Texas Republicans: 'These Motherf**kers Are Panicking'

Source: Huff Post

Aug 9, 2025, 01:26 PM EDT

Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke didn’t mince words when talking about Texas Republicans’ attempts to create a new redistricting map that would disenfranchise millions of non-white voters.

“These motherfuckers are panicking right now,” O’Rourke said during an interview in New Orleans on Friday for Netroots Nation, a nonprofit organization for progressive activism.

O’Rourke was referring to Republicans’ attempts to arrest dozens of House Democrat lawmakers who left the state to deny House Republicans a quorum to gerrymander district lines. Under the new proposed map, President Donald Trump would pick up five more GOP-leaning congressional seats in Texas ahead of the 2026 midterms. The new map would also take voting power away from Latino and Black voters.

“You know that Trump asked Greg Abbott, our governor, to give him five congressional seats in Texas,” O’Rourke explained. “And thick as thieves, he and the Republican state legislature have been busy at work carving up the state. They were gonna vote on these five new districts on Monday, but thank god for Texas Democrats. Fifty-four of them left the state, broke quorum, said ‘To hell with that,’ and defied Donald Trump and stopped this power grab in the state of Texas.”

I never pegged him for being fiery as he seemed to generally be low-key. But I guess he decided to pull out his Jasmine Crockett-style "Texas thang".

Senate Campaign versus Cruz was 53-42 in 2018.

His 2022 Gubernatorial Race vs. Wheels of Evil (Abbott) was 55-45.

I think we need more like this. But we need to back it up with conviction and muscle. In other words, stick to our guns for the long haul. I hope the Texas Dems stay the course.

Charge of gerrymandering will end up in the S.C. which will rule for Texas republicans.

overall will be voting as well. Pound for pound we are much better shape seat wise to play this FAFO championship. I look forward to California, New York and Illinois bringing it.

We aren't going to be able to block quorum in perpetuity.

The plan should be to gerrymander every blue state to the extreme. Hold nothing back. There are dozens of seats at stake and repukes are limited in how many they can gain.
