6 wounded, including 5-year-old girl, in Baltimore 'mass shooting'
Source: ABC News
Six people were wounded, including a 5-year-old girl, in a "mass shooting" in a Baltimore neighborhood Saturday night, police said.
The gunfire broke out shortly before 8:50 p.m. as people near the intersection of Spaulding and Queensberry Avenues gathered outside to eat, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley told reporters at a news conference late Saturday night.
The 5-year-old girl was struck in the hand. "Thankfully, it doesn't appear that her injury is very serious," Worley said.

(39 posts)The impoverished neighborhood was holding a block party for the enjoyment of the residents. That sort of thing is not uncommon in the city. Why some thugs decided to start shooting is incomprehensible. A few years ago at another block party even more people were shot. What an embarrassment for a city that does not need more scorn. Poverty and guns are a bad combination.

On October 29, 2012, the FBI announced Camden was ranked first in violent crime per capita of cities with over 50,000 residents, surpassing Flint, Michigan.[34] That year, there were 67 homicides in Camden.
By 2019, homicides had declined to 25, a 63% decrease. This coincided with wide-ranging reforms by the new police department.[10]
By 2022, overall crime rates had declined even further still, although the murder rate had increased slightly, to its 2016 levels, after falling in both 2020 and 2021, as the city (and country more generally) reopened following the height of both the COVID-19 pandemic, and persistent tensions surrounding the 2020 presidential election; the overall count of non-violent crimes committed within city limits also returned to its 2019 levels by the end of 2022, somewhat offsetting the continued drop in violent crime in the city generally under its new police force that kept overall crime rates near 50-year lows.[35][36][37]

(37,204 posts)caused a young male (probably) to pull out a gun an begin firing indiscriminately into a crowd?
"We have little information at this point. All we know is there's multiple rounds fired, multiple victims," Worley said Saturday.
A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, according to Worley, who said it appeared the people had gathered outside and were eating crabs "and it looks like somebody just opened fire."
call me skeptical.

(4,848 posts)Camden, NJ had frequent shootings like this. They disbanded their force, set up a new county force and selectively hired the cops they felt they could trust. Their murder rate plumeted. These communities aren't making nor selling these guns, but those arms are selectively being trafficked there.
