Trump demands homeless 'immediately' move out of Washington DC to make nation's capital 'more beautiful'
Source: The Independent

President Donald Trump has demanded that the homeless immediately move out of Washington, D.C. to make the nations capital more beautiful. Trump reiterated his Saturday announcement that hes set to hold a press conference at the White House on Monday, adding on Truth Social on Sunday that Im going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before.
The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY, he continued. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you dont have to move out. Were going to put you in jail where you belong.
The president went on to say that Its all going to happen very fast, just like the Border. We went from millions pouring in, to ZERO in the last few months. This will be easier Be prepared! There will be no MR. NICE GUY. We want our Capital BACK.
Trumps promise to jail criminals in Washington comes as the citys mayor, Muriel Bowser, has noted that theres no recent increase in crime. Trump didnt outline what legal authority he would use to evict people from the capital the president only controls federal lands and buildings in the District of Columbia.

No doubt, Trump has seen this "reasoning". There's one city that he has the power to possibly control, and he's going to use D. C. as an example of sorts.

Luckily I was able to get a service connected disability with the VA but before that I was able to get subsidized housing which I no longer need. I could be dealing with these dark times as well as being homeless with now politicians from both parties will target for political reasons. It wasn't this bad under Obama as far as how politicians treated the homeless.

(672 posts)There isn't enough of that available to go around, first to the homeless, then to the poor, and on up the ladder.
Those 2 groups, along with many others, also don't live with a sense of safety and security, which we all need as well.
Cleaning up a city fixes nothing, and probably will make it worse for the homeless.
I am really getting sick and tired of seeing the wealthy and the powerful take really great care of themselves and treat the rest of us like we are fungible and worthless garbage.

(21,471 posts)I knew it wasn't real, though, just like I knew Disney movies and fairy tales weren't real. I was born born in 1950, and the show ran from 1955 to 1960, so I was very young when it was on. But I think those of us who grew up with TV from an early age quickly caught on to the fact that some shows were about real things and others, like that one, were made up stories.
The Millionaire seemed a lot like a fairy tale to me. For someone to be handed a million dollars, which seemed like an unfathomably huge amount of money at the time, seemed almost as magical as Cinderalla's fairy godmother turning a pumpkin into a coach.

He and so many (if not all) in his administration want us out of the way... preferably dead. They want all that sweet, sweet money we paid into our retirement insurance our entire lives. Boomers are the first generation to have 100% of their earnings taxed for SS their entire working lives. My mother came close to it, but she was born about 20 years before me... I've been paying in since I was 15. And only once in my entire life did I claim unemployment insurance. They want the rest of that money, the contract made with us be damned. And isn't that something?! They scream bloody murder if a contract with them is broken, but break a contract with US? Ah, it's such a little thing... grrrr...

(672 posts)Let's see. First decrease our Social Security checks so we can't live on them. It's not like anyone who depends on social security is getting rich, after all.
Second, let's fiddle with Medicare so our benefits decrease and our costs for it go up. The cost of healthcare is outrageous in this country.
Now we have seniors who can't make ends meet and who can't afford increased healthcare costs. If we get sick, maybe the government will get lucky and we will die. Medicaid reductions will also lead to poor people getting sick; maybe they will die too. They are among the groups of "useless" people, according to Uncle Sam. These four groups are the immigrants, the homeless, the poor, and the Seniors.
But wait! There is a fifth group, and is women. What's that I read about some fool in the government advocating for taking away women's right to vote? Do I think that is a bunch of hooey? Not after Roe v. Wade was struck down. I don't put anything past these creatures. The Supreme Court is no better than the rest of them.
The way the ICE "agents" act, they are in training to come after various targeted groups. Those ICE agents are terrorists. When they get rid of the immigrants in their holding cages, there will be room for next group to be stashed.
We, as citizens, must assume the worst and prepare for it in an organized manner. We must defend ourselves. Ain't nobody else gonna do it.
I am appalled at the way immigrants are getting treated. Some US citizens and permanent residents are getting snatched away even though that is illegal. And people who are awaiting a decision on whether they can stay here are being deported, and often to countries which are not their own. Families must be frantic and feeling terrorized. Some people have died. ICE just keeps on coming.
My mother was a naturalized citizen and my aunt was a permanent resident. I'm glad they are both dead, which I wasn't until now.
I may seem somewhat hysterical, but I am not. I am calm, and just thinking about preparing for the worst. It's kinda hard to hope for the best at this point.
Edited to add: I meant to say there are other disadvantaged groups: disabled people and, from what I can tell, anyone who does not fit the Rethug mold, including race and religious beliefs. That Monster is going to attack voting rights and change the way the Census is taken. They want to make women powerless.
I don't know. Maybe I am full of it.

On second thought, we would not have to do that. Our spin can be that of all the homeless expelled from our nations capitol none were democrats. (433 posts)AI Overview
"The Niemöller checklist, often quoted as "First they came for...", is a quote by Martin Niemöller, a German theologian and Lutheran pastor who initially supported the Nazis but later became an outspoken critic. The quote reflects his regret for not speaking out against the persecution of various groups by the Nazis.
The most common version of the quote is:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for meand there was no one left to speak for me.
Niemöller's quote highlights the dangers of remaining silent when others are being persecuted, emphasizing that the persecution of one group can lead to the persecution of others and eventually affect everyone. He used various versions of the quote, often changing the groups targeted depending on the context of his speeches. Some versions include communists, socialists, trade unionists, Jews, people with disabilities, and Jehovah's Witnesses.
Niemöller's statement is a powerful reminder of the importance of speaking out against injustice and discrimination, even when it doesn't directly affect one's own group. It serves as a warning against indifference and apathy in the face of oppression."

(433 posts)"The Theresienstadt "camp-ghetto" existed for three and a half years, between November 24, 1941 and May 9, 1945. During its existence, Theresienstadt served three purposes:
"Theresienstadt served as a transit camp for Czech Jews whom the Germans deported to killing centers, concentration camps, and forced-labor camps in German-occupied Poland, Belorussia, and the Baltic States.
"It was a ghetto-labor camp. The SS deported and then incarcerated there certain categories of German, Austrian, and Czech Jews, based on their age, disability as a result of past military service, or domestic celebrity in the arts and other cultural life. To disguise the physical annihilation of the Jews deported from the Greater German Reich, the Nazi regime employed the general fiction, primarily inside Germany, that the deported Jews would be deployed at productive labor in the East. Since it seemed implausible that elderly Jews could be used for forced labor, the Nazis used Theresienstadt to hide the nature of the deportations.
Theresienstadt served as a holding pen for Jews in the above-mentioned groups. It was expected that the poor conditions there would hasten the deaths of many deportees, until the SS and police could deport the survivors to killing centers in the East....
"Theresienstadt served as a settlement, an assembly camp, and a concentration camp. It had recognizable features of both ghettos and concentration camps. In its function as a tool of deception, Theresienstadt was unique.
"Nazi Deception
Theresienstadt served an important propaganda function for the Germans. The publicly stated purpose for the deportation of the Jews from Germany was their "resettlement to the east," where they would be compelled to perform forced labor. Since it seemed implausible that elderly Jews could be used for forced labor, the Nazis used the Theresienstadt ghetto to hide the nature of the deportations. In Nazi propaganda, Theresienstadt was cynically described as a "spa town" where elderly German Jews could "retire" in safety. The deportations to Theresienstadt were, however, part of the Nazi strategy of deception. The ghetto was in reality a collection center for deportations to ghettos and killing centers in Nazi-occupied eastern Europe.

Comite International de la Croix Rouge
Succumbing to pressure following the deportation of Danish Jews to Theresienstadt, the Germans permitted the International Red Cross to visit in June 1944. It was all an elaborate hoax. The Germans intensified deportations from the ghetto shortly before the visit, and the ghetto itself was "beautified." Gardens were planted, houses painted, and barracks renovated. The Nazis staged social and cultural events for the visiting dignitaries. Once the visit was over, the Germans resumed deportations from Theresienstadt, which did not end until October 1944."
