Trump and Putin May Get a Cold Reception From Some Alaskans

Source: New York Times

Aug. 10, 2025 Updated 4:35 p.m. ET

President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia may arrive to a somewhat chilly reception in Alaska next week, as the state that has long made efforts to deepen and even celebrate its ties to the country has soured on its neighbor across the Bering Sea. President Trump said on Friday that he would meet with Mr. Putin on Aug. 15 in Alaska, in an attempt to secure a deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Mr. Trump had earlier suggested that a peace deal between the two countries could include “some swapping of territories,” signaling that the United States may join Russia in trying to compel Ukraine to permanently cede some of its land. David Ramseur, who was an aide to the former Alaska governors Tony Knowles and Steve Cowper, said the setting for the summit is knotty given how the historical “affinity” between Alaskans and Russians has weakened since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Alaska boosters have been pushing for Alaska as an international gateway for basically since statehood,” said Mr. Ramseur, who wrote the book “Melting the Ice Curtain: The Extraordinary Story of Citizen Diplomacy on the Russia-Alaska Frontier.” “So in that sense, it’s good for Alaska. Puts us on the map for a couple of hours.”

Alaska has deep ties to Russian history and culture, dating back to when the Russian Empire first colonized the region in the 18th century. Since the United States purchased the land in 1867, Russian-speaking communities have stayed in the state, and Russian Orthodox Churches, with their distinct onion-shaped domes, can be found from the remote Aleutian Islands to Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city.

I'm guessing the US WILL HAVE NO INTERPRETER Present. Trump will use the Russian interpreter. How many bugs will the Russians leave behind in Alaska? Trump will have no one knowledgeable about this stuff with him on the trip.

Has Trump even considered that if he makes a move against Greenland or Canada that Russia and/or China will move immediately on Alaska? Maybe I've played too much RISK! HAHA.

You realize the deal is china gets taiwan, russia ukraine/poland, etc. Trump gets greenland which has gold.

I mean the writing is on the wall. Nobody is going to invade us, not now anyway.

I do think Trump would like to take Canada in the future, though. He will wait until the media is following whatever shit he throws at the wall, and then he will announce canda has decided to give itself to the USA. He will hold up a sharpie signed deal, and even though the Canadians say it isn't true, CNN, MSNBC, etc will declare dear leader the most sane, and fertile man in the world, and that he is such an artist with his deals, and oh how wonderful it was Canada ageeed to sell itself to the usa.

believing that having the summit televised live would be a great political move and would guarantee
him win the Nobel peace prize he thinks belongs to him?

What we would see is him kissing Putin's ass.

11. President Pedo Master Negotiator

I've suggested this to several podcasters. With this sycophantic congress, President Pedo, who has no authority to cede any Ukrainian or Russian territory, could give Alaska away. The master negotiator would probably trade it for a few cans of gold spray paint to continue his redecoration of the White House.

9. I've been upset that the us is not a part of the Rome Statute
Mon Aug 11, 2025, 06:56 AM
Aug 11

Found reasons why:

Major Powers Not Members:
United States: The US has not ratified the Rome Statute and has expressed concerns about the court's jurisdiction over its citizens, particularly military personnel.
China: China is not a party to the Rome Statute and has not recognized the ICC's jurisdiction.
Russia: Russia is not a member of the ICC and has withdrawn its signature from the Rome Statute.
India: India is not a member of the ICC.
Israel: Israel is not a member of the ICC.
Other Notable Non-Members:
Several other countries have also not joined the ICC, including Iraq, Indonesia, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
Burundi and the Philippines have withdrawn from the ICC.
Some countries have signed the Rome Statute but have not ratified it, including Egypt, Iran, Sudan, and Syria.

The ICC issued arrest warrants for Bibi and the Hamas leader in November 2024. Bibi met with Krasnov at Our House in April 2025.

Krasnov should be next on the ICC'S wanted list.

akin to when Krasnov invited the Taliban to Camp David.

Another feather in Putin's cap being recognized by the United States and given positive publicity by Krasnov.

Why not have the meeting in Europe? Oh yeah, Europe has a warrant out for Putin's arrest, the US lays out the red carpet for Putin.

16. Alaska was chosen as the site for the "summit" (surrender) in order to suppress protest.

There just won't be many protesters in Alaska or going to Alaska. And with Trump hosting the meeting, he gets the "dominant" position in handshake photos.

What Trump discusses with Putin in private is anybody's guess, but Trump loves real estate and likes to play real life Monopoly. Putin has his own agenda which includes power and control over former Soviet block countries.

17. I read the article; no mention of WHO would give it a "Cold Reception".

This is as close as it gets:

Eric Croft, chairman of the Alaska Democratic Party, said that the meeting highlighted Mr. Trump’s failure to fulfill his campaign pledge of ending the war on the first day of his administration.

“We’d love the war in Gaza and Ukraine to be resolved, and stop killing civilians,” Mr. Croft said in an interview on Saturday. “I think most Alaskans are more worried about inflation and cuts to Medicaid and cuts to public radio, but we’ll entertain them if they need it.”
