Police respond to a report of an active shooter at Villanova University

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) — Police responded Thursday to a report of an active shooter on the campus of Villanova University, days before the start of classes. ... Students shared an alert text from the Villanova alert system that informed them of an active shooter on campus and told them to lock and barricade doors and move to secure locations. A second alert from Villanova officials warned people to stay away from the law school.

In a post on X, Radnor Township told nearby residents and students to shelter in place. No other information was given. ... Videos posted on social media showed a crowd being rushed inside a building on campus. New student orientation and registration started Thursday and is scheduled to go until Saturday. Classes begin Monday.

Villanova University is a private Catholic university in the Philadelphia suburbs. It borders Lower Merion Township and Radnor Township at the center of the city’s wealthy Main Line neighborhoods.

The Augustinian school got extra attention this year as the alma mater of new Pope Leo XIV.

We have been texting about it the past half hour. My sis texted that her mother was headed out there to get her (whenever they allow anyone on campus).

My niece is at a different school (just went through a move-in a couple days ago for the new semester) but has been texting her buddy. She said her friend was "okay" but was locked up in their dorm with a bunch of other students, with their door barricaded as the shooter was apparently near them.

I am sorry, I understand that it is too early to know the motivations blah blah, but this stuff just has to be connected to the climate that the rethugs have engendered by and around that orange gibbon.

It damned sure isn't because these animals are seeking peace and justice. It is because, in their minds (or what passes for them anyway) they have been given permission to act up like this. They all think that Dear Leader will pardon them for going after elites, intellectuals, liberals, progressives, LBGTQA+, minorities, etc. because Dear Leader has indicated he does not like them. (As others here have pointed out, there are factions that have drunk the kool-aid who are literally voting against themselves when they vote for that hoot owl. But, they do it.)

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) — A report of a shooter on Villanova University’s campus was a “cruel hoax,” the school’s president said Thursday.

“There was no active shooter, no injuries and no evidence of firearms on campus,” the Rev. Peter M. Donohue said in an emailed statement.
