NEW YORK (AP) A pair of federal lawsuits filed in San Francisco and New York this week accuse Delta Air Lines and United Airlines of misleading passengers by charging premium fees for window seats next to blank walls.
A New York law firm brought the cases as proposed class actions on behalf of any passengers who say they wouldnt have selected or paid more for their reserved places if they had known the seats did not include a window.
We have received a flood of interest from passengers who feel they have been harmed by this practice and who wish to join the lawsuits, the Greenbaum Olbrantz firm said in a statement. It makes sense that people are upset. The majority of Americans fly on one of these airlines at some point and a large proportion of them want or need a window, and they pay good money for the privilege.
Both Delta and United declined to comment, citing pending litigation.

(7,543 posts)I always booked the first flight out in the morning on United. They flew along the mountains and foothills and mesas and the sunrises were frequently just amazing!!
I'd have been very pissed if I didn't have an actual window.

(198 posts)I am guessing this is not specific to window seats since Delta does not charge more for those vs aisle, but on picking an assigned seat vs just buying Economy Basic. Basic means you do not pick your seat ahead of time and are assigned a seat based on whatever is left at the gate right before departure.
Picking what seat you want in the main cabin (not including Comfort+ or Preferred) is not priced based on window vs aisle.
As a frequent traveler, people who leave the window shade up all flight annoy me anyway. I might pay more for an aisle seat in a row without a window if I could.
Not sure about United, but I know the Delta and American systems very well.
