Erik Menendez to remain in prison after decision by California Parole Board

Source: LA Times

SACRAMENTO — Erik Menendez will not be released, the California Parole Board decided in a highly anticipated and lengthy hearing Thursday, curtailing for now the contentious push by he and his older sibling to be freed after the 1989 killing of their parents in their Beverly Hills home.

The hearing came after years of legal efforts by Menendez and his brother to be set free despite being convicted of life without the possibility of parole in 1995. Their jury trial, and accounts of an abusive upbringing in the upscale Beverly Hills home, inspired several documentaries and television series and drew renewed attention to their case and allegations of sexual abuse against their father.

NONE. That was Leslie Abramson's bullshit to spare the brothers the death penalty. This was all about the 10 to 12 million dollars the brothers stood to gain but Jose Menendez was threatening to cut them off from.

The brothers' behavior following their execution of their parents was damning. They couldn't WAIT to get the money and spend it like drunken sailors.

Hardly the behavior of "abused" "children." Neither "child" was living at home, by the way, at the time they massacred their parents in front of the TV set while eating ice cream.

ETA: I want to add the often forgotten fact that the sons had been arrested for burglary shortly before the murders. No doubt in my mind the parents decided to put their feet down and perhaps refused to help them any further or else threatened to cut them off. The brothers were clearly afraid of losing their inheritance. The brothers were and are sociopaths, pure and simple, and slaughtered their parents without blinking an eye. They even went out to the car to get reloaded so they could shoot their mother further. Then they went to the movies. Jose and Kitty Menendez were parents of monsters.

The brothers killed them for the inheritance. Period. Abramson is scum for putting the parents on trial. I am sorry you believe her utter garbage.

This pair of murdering scumbags proved their father (and mother) right when he planned to disinherit them for being so useless and completely lacking drive. The brothers got scared of being cut off of 10 or 12 million (in 1989) and killed them in the most heinous way possible. I cannot believe there are people out there (mostly women groupies who ply them with love letters and such) who bought their attorney Leslie Abramson's "abuse excuse" bullshit, bullshit that was legal gamesmanship in order to spare them the death penalty. That is all that "defense" was. It was despicable to make the victims the criminals and the MURDERERS the victims. She should have been run out of California on a rail. At least they got spared the death penalty, so she succeeded in her filthy job.

The moral of the story for rich parents is this: Be very, very careful before saying anything to your kids about disinheriting them. You may pay for it with your life. Jose and KItty Menendez, Franklin Bradshaw, Dale Ewell. ALL killed by their children (or in the case of Bradshaw, his grandson at his daughter's request) because of greed and overwhelming sense of entitlement.

She would dress them in pastel sweaters and probably hired all sorts of image consultants etc.

She got some horrific people not guilty verdicts.

Well, both are American Ideals, so I don't know what else we expected.

Almost all crime in this country is over or about money. Even if the actual reason is not greed and/or entitlement, both still plays a factor in most crime.

What the hell part of this ruling, 'being convicted of life without the possibility of parole in 1995', does the patrole boad not understand ? Seems simple to me, and I'm not an attorney.

they can continue to keep each other company in prison and to read their love letters from their many female admirers.

No sane person bought what they were trying to sell. They had 10 to 12 million reasons to bump their parents off. May they rot forever.
