Gov. Beshear orders flags to half-staff after fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk
Source: Lex18
(LEX 18) Following the fatal shooting of Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk at a speaking event in Utah on Wednesday, and in accordance with the White House, Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Sunday.
Beshear also directed flags to be lowered on Thursday for Patriot Day and in honor of the lives lost in the 9/11 attacks.
The governor encourages businesses, individuals, and organizations in the state to join in the tribute.

The president-elect also criticized Democrats for feeling giddy over the prospect of the capitals flags being at half mast during his inaugural ceremonies. They think its so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they dont love our Country, they only think about themselves, he added.

No.
Seriously, why? For 9/11 memorial I get, but wtf did Mr. Kirk do to merit such honors?

(125 posts)The next Democratic Administration needs to designate January 6 as Insurrection Day.
As to Kirk, I confess that I was at best apathetic when I heard he had been assassinated. I had two thoughts that Im sure many here had but dont want to admit to. The first was there is now one less dumbfuck to wear a silly red hat. Then I thought about the Clarence Darrow quote: I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.
Im sorry, Im not going to feign shock or sadness that this fascist POS was killed. Clarence Darrow was a far better person than me there are people I wish were dead and who I think do deserve to die.

(58 posts)This is so stupid. Do these governors seriously think the Rethugs will give them any respect? Of course not. They'll just think this is a win for them. After all, the most important thing in life is to "own the libs," right?

(708 posts)Sorry, this is getting really stupid. Kirk held no official government position. Why is he deserving of such an honor?
Did Beshear and all these other governors order flags at half staff for the killings in Minnesota?
Why not just keep the flag on the ground considering how rampant gun violence is in this country?

(5,253 posts)You dont have to agree with the guy, like the guy, respect the guy, or anything else to see that this shooting was wrong, unacceptable, criminal, and human tragedy for those who did know and love him. We should all see the humanity in each other and oppose mans inhumanity to man unconditionally.
But this man wasnt a public servant. He wasnt an elected official. He wasnt a noted philanthropist. Why would anyone other than Trump fly flags at half-staff in his honor? His life, insofar as I can tell, was devoted to public disservice, to divisiveness, to fomenting hate and tribalism. What makes him deserving of public honors normally reserved to those who contribute to the public good?
There are ways to show respect for his humanity that dont demean actual public servants.

"Lowering the temperature" means lowering the flag for the sort of person who helped get us here?.
I respect the gravity of the loss for Kirk's family while being horrified by what lowering the flag says about some of our leaders, that they're embracing politics and pandering over governance.
