(26,954 posts)I'm thinking this was a professional hit on a sacrificial lamb by a sniper.
Any news on the Epstein files tonight? No. And MAGAts are totally riled up, including my brother. Just got a major rant text from him.
I'm sure we will be hearing the killer was a transexual illegal immigrant.

(20,997 posts)carrying a long rifle was seen 200 yards from where Kirk was speaking. If he is the shooter, then he is an experienced sniper, probably a military veteran. Since long rifles are usually not the focus of gun control advocates, I'm guessing that the shooter is either a professional, or someone with mental illness. Since Democrats support UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE, including treatment for mental illness, I feel like the MAGATs are going to have a hard time pinning this on us. They'll try though.

(17,319 posts)I said an experienced sniper would not have been seen. Ever hear of a Ghillie suit? Wearing all black in the middle of the day on a roof is cosplay. This was the work of an amateur.

(17,319 posts)Do they have a suspect, or are they clueless?
they are seeking a person of interest. They just have no idea who that person is.

(18,199 posts)I thought an assassination was for a political figure. Like elected official political figure, not a spokesperson for a hate group.

But yes, historically, "assassination" has been used almost exclusively for political figures, while "assassin" was used more in the context of professionally trained killers/people who specialize in killing specific individuals, generally for money.

(56,621 posts)Our pathetic FBI director, Kash Patel, announced an arrest, then announced the guy was released. Then he announced another arrest, then he announced that guy was released too. All within a few hours. Total shitshow.
Andrew Weissman just pointed out on Lawrence O'Donnell that up until a few weeks ago, the Salt Lake City FBI office was headed by a decorated veteran FBI agent who joined the FBI after 9/11. She was ethnically Pakistani, and a woman. She was unceremoniously fired by Kash Patel without any stated reason, other than stating that she was "no longer a good fit" for the office.
So, the white male now heading the office is new to the job and apparently could not hit the ground running on this shooting investigation. Weissman said it is unheard of for an FBI director to announce not once but twice that a suspect/person of interest was arrested, only to, within a couple hours, announce that the person was released.
Weissman is wondering what was wrong with Kash Patel's FBI info sources. Normally an arrest would never be announced unless the FBI was pretty sure they had their suspect. Here, Patel announced it before the guy was even interrogated, and he did that twice! Totally flailing.
