Trump administration set to tie Tylenol to autism risk, officials say

Source: Washington Post

The Trump administration is expected to unveil new efforts Monday exploring how one medication may be linked to autism and another one can treat it, according to four people with knowledge of the plans who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the announcement was not yet public.

Federal health officials are expected to raise concerns about pregnant women’s use of acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol and one of the most widely used medications globally. Officials have been reviewing previous research — including an August review by Mount Sinai and Harvard researchers — that suggests a possible link between Tylenol use early on in pregnancy and an increased risk of autism in children. They plan to warn pregnant women against using Tylenol early on unless they have a fever, according to the four individuals......

Since Kennedy became the nation’s top health official, there has been speculation that his agency would link autism to vaccines, a connection Kennedy has referenced regularly despite decades of scientific studies debunking the theory.

Under Kennedy’s leadership, HHS hired David Geier, a proponent of a connection between immunization and autism whose research has come under intense scrutiny, to conduct a government study on whether they are linked. Geier and his father, Mark Geier, have published papers claiming vaccines increase the risk of autism, a theory that has been studied for decades and scientifically debunked.

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by difficulties in social and communication skills, and repetitive behaviors, which has been diagnosed at higher rates among U.S. children in recent decades. One in 31 8-year-olds had autism in U.S. communities examined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, compared with about 1 in 150 children in 2000.

Here is a link to this study
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2817406

Question Does acetaminophen use during pregnancy increase children’s risk of neurodevelopmental disorders?

Findings In this population-based study, models without sibling controls identified marginally increased risks of autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) associated with acetaminophen use during pregnancy. However, analyses of matched full sibling pairs found no evidence of increased risk of autism (hazard ratio, 0.98), ADHD (hazard ratio, 0.98), or intellectual disability (hazard ratio, 1.01) associated with acetaminophen use.

Meaning Acetaminophen use during pregnancy was not associated with children’s risk of autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in sibling control analyses. This suggests that associations observed in other models may have been attributable to confounding.

Roundup is still on the market even now, because the brand is owned by Bayer, but it was reformulated years ago.
Monsanto got away with some awful things - including making napalm to be used in Vietnam.
Until finally they went too far with Roundup.

Of course, the regime canceled very promising research that seemed to be addressing a lot of common factors for these insidious life destroyers. I think some of the Alzheimer's work was showing much progress. Such a crime - murdering people not yet born, in some cases.

had a colleague tell her that he thought it possible I may be on the autism spectrum, I did some reading on it. One article suggested, there seemed to be evidence that men who are significantly older than average when they father a child, maybe more likely to have a child on the autism spectrum than younger fathers. It also said may scientists believe there is a genetic factor at play.

My Dad was 54, and my Mom was 32 when they had me, so it would fit, if this study is accurate.

Mensa level and your brother is very intelligent too.

I think they suspected me of being on the spectrum because I have always been very self critical and easy to make cry.

I am above average intelligence in subjects like English, History, and Law but far below average in math. They said most people tend to be better in one subject than the other, but not to the extent that I am. My High-school guidance counselor said he had never met anyone with that much of a gap, and he said I was "weird." l have friends and family, but am generally socially awkward and have an easier time bonding with cats and dogs than most people. I think those are the reasons the doctor's colleague thought the Autism Spectrum was a possibility.

I don't know what will.

For one thing, Tylenol is big profits.

For another thing, why aren't there a plethora of autistic people running around. I've seen others gobble down their Tylenol and no autism.

For another thing, not everyone can take Advil or aspirin. Tylenol is Acetaminophen and Advil is Ibuprofen. While both products are painkillers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, some people would react quite negatively if they took the wrong one.

IMO, this is big.

I hope Tylenol sues them in to oblivion.

I never really liked Tylenol, much preferring Ibuprofen since it was the first thing which helped me with menstrual cramps beside codeine. I hated codeine because it made me a zombie.

Tylenol is bad on the liver so I just avoided it. These days, a very popular fever reducer drug regime is alternating Tylenol and Ibuprofen so the body doesn’t get too much of either.

What are pregnant women supposed to do? This is stupid. It works. It isn’t teratogenic.

Tell RFK,Jr to go to “H E double toothpicks”.
