FCC honcho Brendan Carr accused Democrats of being engaged in nothing more than Projection and Distortion in his first remarks since the announcement of Jimmy Kimmels return to television. Posting to his X account Tuesday, Carr harangued Democrats, accusing them of illegally weaponizing government and placing blame in the Kimmel saga.
On Kimmel, the Democrats are engaged in nothing more than Projection and Distortion. Projection because Democrats are the ones that spent years illegally weaponizing government to silence dissent. And it is Democrats that will do it all againas they are openly telling you today.
Distortion because Democrats want to blame anything other than Disney and their local TV stations for Kimmels suspension. Those businesses decided that, in their view, a suspension made sense. The reporting on this is clear.
Notably, this is the first time recently that any local TV stations have pushed back on a national programmer like Disney. And that is a good thing because we want want empowered local TV stations. After all, local TV stationsnot the national programmershave public interest obligations, and they should be making decisions that in their view meets the needs of their local communities. I walked through all of this in my Concordia remarks yesterday, which are posted below.

Like a cornered rat. His remarks were published worldwide and his threats promised an expansion of his policy decisions.
How can Democrats be "weaponizing" a government that the GOP is in charge of - literally across EVERY BRANCH including the SCOTUS?

(8,872 posts)WJLA in WASHINGTON, DC serves liberal DC, Northern Virginia, and the Maryland burbs.
It is a Sinclair station. They are NOT broadcasting Kimmel tonight.
Can local WJLA, serving its community, broadcast Kimmel without getting permission from corporate?
They cant! And there goes your (one of many) argument(s).

(8,570 posts)That's why I see Sinclair & Nexstar doing this for a couple of days, and then letting the local operators decide based on local feedback.
DC will probably boycott to get it back, Johnson City, TN probably won't.
Overall, it will take boycotts of people who don't even watch Kimmel to have a real impact, especially in the smaller markets, because in the big picture, like the rest of late night, he just doesn't get that many viewers. This whole mess might bump his viewership though.

Kimmel is back on ABC but Sinclair and Nexstar won't carry the program.
Sinclair won't because it would displease their dear leader. Sinclair publicly pledged their fealty and even had all of their news staff read the same prepared statement years ago.
Nexstar won't because they have a merger with TEGNA in the works that Carr will have to approve, since it would exceed even the already-too-large limit for the number of stations one company can own. This merger will make Nexstar the largest in the country by far.
