Suspect charged in NC mass shooting that killed 3, injured at least 8 others

Source: USA Today

Police in North Carolina have charged a suspect in connection with a mass shooting that killed three and left at least eight others injured at a riverside bar near the coast on Sept. 27.

The shooting at American Fish Company in Southport occurred around 9:30 p.m. local time when a gunman traveling in a boat along the Cape Fear River pulled up to the restaurant's dock and fired into a crowd. The boat then fled up the Intracoastal Waterway toward Oak Island.

At about 10 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard detained a person matching the description of the shooter, who was taking their boat out of the water at a public boat ramp about 12 miles from the restaurant where the shooting occurred, according to a news release from the Southport Police Department.

The suspect, 40-year-old Nigel Max Edge, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of common law attempted first-degree murder, Southport Police Chief Todd Coring confirmed Sept. 28. Brunswick County Detention Center records show Edge was booked into the jail early Sept. 28 where he is being held with no bond.

More than 320 mass shootings, in which at least 4 people have been killed, so far this year.

But on a positive note, the gun industry is thriving.

In 2006, DeBevoise deployed to Iraq and suffered significant traumatic brain injuries, including a potential gunshot wound to the head. As a result, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and cognitive disorders.

According to social media and public records, he independently released a book on Amazon called “Headshot-Betrayal of a Nation (Truth Hurts),” filed many lawsuits, and denounced alleged conspiracies, such as a “white supremacist LGBTQ pedophile ring” that was allegedly pursuing him.

unless you fess up to them.

Form 4473, Question G: Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution? Yes/No.

Guess "Max Edge" was never adjudicated as a mental defective.

People signed up in aftermat of 9-11 for honorable reasons, which got turned into self-destructive and soul-crushing outcomes in many cases, with high numbers of traumatic brain injuries.

Guy has shrapnel in his brain, two IIEDs — and may not have much freedom in daily choices.

Obviously not excusing what he did, which is utterly awful.

I was wanting to go to Wilmington for the last couple weeks and could easily have ended up at that restaurant.

9. Should then federal authorities have access to your medical records?

Unfortunately that is the question that stymies the gun background check system.
Unless someone voluntarily admits to mental health problems, or they have been admitted to a psychiatric institution via a court order, we have to rely on their honesty.
Is there a solution? I’m open to suggestions, but I don’t want anyone, much less the Federal government to have access to my health information.
