Government shutdown could cost US economy billions of dollars a week, analysts say

Senior officials inside Donald Trump’s administration have acknowledged the federal government shutdown, without an end in sight, could hurt the US economy. The damage could be worth billions of dollars each week, according to analysts.

“This isn’t the way to have a discussion, shutting down the government and lowering the GDP,” Scott Bessent, the US treasury secretary, told the CNBC financial news network. “We could see a hit to the GDP, a hit to growth and a hit to working America.”

Prolonged failure to reach a deal would be costly.

“We estimate that each week of shutdown would reduce US GDP growth by 0.1 percentage points (ppt) in Q4 (in annualized terms), translating into a $7 billion weekly hit to the economy,” a report by EY Parthenon said, citing the effect of lack of pay for furloughed federal workers, delayed government procurement of goods and services and decline in demand.

have they brought in the factor that the WH is with holding billions of dollars? But We the People are still paying federal taxes. Instead of the WH trying to minimize the cost of the shutdown they are creating chaos, which I know that's the goal.

But have they factor that in most part We the People know how to survive?

All they are doing is killing their brand which is good thing. Crypto nor gold will save this fuck up party know as the Republican party.

Why do we still have to pay them when there's no one to collect them?

Any time they start screaming about 'the economy', this means that it is getting to those animals in the government. They are the ones worried right now because it is their massive wealth that is about to drop in size and they are petrified that someone else will get the difference. That is the level of greed in some of these wealthy people. The fact that they are worried about the economy (I.e.: their wallets), but not the people who create and maintain said economy is something that should be yelled from every rooftop every single morning.

Now, for someone like me, who has no stake in any of this, I say let it continue, because when it all boils away, the rich are the ones who will suffer, they will just make damned sure to pass it down to the rest of us any way they can. (As they have done many times in the past.) However, those of us on the bottom are well versed in survival as well as making it with nothing, so those spoiled, entitled rich people who have their latte handed to them in the morning are about to learn some valuable lessons. Lessons that they should have been taught a long time ago.

(Were it not for the programming that convinced us all to worship them and let them run amok, this would have happened much sooner. I wish I could say 'better late than never', but there are too many people who still believe their hype, so I am still not convinced that there are enough 'non-programmed' to teach that lesson.)
