Cori Bush is running for Congress again, the progressive activist announced Friday.
Bush is seeking her old seat in Missouris reliably blue 1st District, which she lost to former St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell in a 2024 primary.
Bush won the first of two terms in 2020, parlaying her prominence leading protests after the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown into an unofficial spot as part of the Squad, a group of young House progressives.
I ran for Congress to change things for regular people. Im running again because St. Louis deserves leadership that doesnt wait for permission, doesnt answer to wealthy donors and doesnt hide when things get tough, Bush said in her campaign video announcement this time around.

(170 posts)She's the one who was ineffective. She also has plenty of baggage herself with regard to misusing funds for her personal benefit along with other false and exaggerated claims about her personal security. She latches on to anti semitic tropes and sees AIPAC as some sort of conspiratorial boogieman. She's just a disorganized and ill-prepared and ill-informed hot mess with a legislative record that was, let's say, very thin.
Considering how poorly things went for her list time, it's unclear why she thinks that she can win.
2024 primary election results
In the August 6, 2024, primary, Wesley Bell received 51.2% of the vote, while incumbent Cori Bush received 45.6%.
2024 general election results
Following his primary victory in the heavily Democratic district, Bell won the general election in November 2024. In that race, Bell received 75.9% of the vote with nearly three-quarters counted.
