California Gov. Gavin Newsom says 'the rules of the game have changed,' predicts redistricting ballot measure will win

Source: NBC News

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday said he’s “deeply confident” that California voters this week will approve the state’s Prop 50 ballot measure, which would allow the state to redraw congressional maps on a partisan basis ahead of next year’s midterm elections.

In a wide-ranging interview, the California governor slammed the president’s push for mid-decade redistricting efforts in Republican states across the country, accusing the president of “rigging” next year’s congressional election and warning that Trump “is not screwing around.”

“He’s changing the rules. He’s rigging the game because he knows he’ll lose if all things are equal,” Newsom told Welker. “He did not expect California to fight fire with fire.”

The California governor also spoke about his tactics in pushing back against Trump on social media, telling Welker that he believes he is holding “a mirror up to that madness.”

You have mostly-liberal and educated voters in your state. You can speak to them directly and tell them the truth. They will actually listen ... and give you the benefit of the doubt.

California rocks!

And the California MAGAs are going nuts over this. They say Prop 50 is taking away their right to representation. I suspect their new representatives will turn out to be better for them in the long run since they won’t be ass kissing Trump toadies.

They are already have my brother. It wouldn't be fair to them.

Don't we have an atoll or an island anywhere they can go? I'm willing to give them SNAP benefits to make the transition easier.

And no I'm not saying I oppose what's happening in California because it's only a reaction to what Texas another Republican states are trying to pull by gerrymandering.
I'm just saying we need the amendment because leaving it to the politicians is like asking the fox to guard the hen house.
Another thing we need is that you can't get elected back into office unless you get 5% more votes than you previously got and that includes if you lose and then decide to run again later during the next election for the same level of office. So if you run for the house you need 5% more if you ever run for the house again at any other time in the future. If you run for the Senate though that is different and it starts off the same way where after the next election you need 5% more and so on.

Make no mistake, the Dems have done it too. But almost all the recent violations have been done by Repukes.

Regardless, it's fact of human nature that anyone will try to tip the scale in their own favor, if they are given the chance. That's why NO INCUMBENTS should ever be included in the redistricting process.

Ideally each state should have a non-partisan committee, or a bi-partisan committee with no incumbents permitted.

simply by how they draw the lines.

Take off on the ending scene of Scarface. Gavin Newsom - "You wanna play rough? OK! Say hello to my little friend!" A sharpie used to draw new CA district lines.
