Elizabeth Warren calls on Harvard to sever ties with Larry Summers after new Jeffrey Epstein emails

Source: CNN

Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Harvard University should sever ties with Larry Summers, the school’s former president and one of its most prominent faculty members — putting new pressure on the elite university to hold Summers accountable for his close friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

New details of Summers’ relationship with Epstein emerged last week when a House committee released emails showing years of personal correspondence between the two men, including Summers making sexist comments and seeking Epstein’s romantic advice.

Warren, a former Harvard Law School professor and now the Democratic senior senator from Massachusetts, said in response to a CNN inquiry that she believes Summers “cannot be trusted” with students given his past relationship with Epstein.

“For decades, Larry Summers has demonstrated his attraction to serving the wealthy and well-connected, but his willingness to cozy up to a convicted sex offender demonstrates monumentally bad judgment,” Warren told CNN. “If he had so little ability to distance himself from Jeffrey Epstein even after all that was publicly known about Epstein’s sex offenses involving underage girls, then Summers cannot be trusted to advise our nation’s politicians, policymakers, and institutions — or teach a generation of students at Harvard or anywhere else.”

The mentor-mentee relationship is sacrosanct. You can’t have balances like power like those.

That was one excellent about all my mentors in science, even my last mentor who was a nice person but kinda stupid socially in retrospect.

He was a good scientist and a genuinely nice person but he was also really pretty stupid. I think he is deluded that those Google creeps etc quite possibly would be ..those guys don’t seem that stable. To be elite these days is to basically signal that you won’t rock the status quo at all more than the bare minimum if even that can be avoided.
I think it is that stale concept of “surprise minimization” at work. These people are seriously why I never considered having children.
But I digress. In spite of my disappointment with my last mentor that he knows people i consider a societal parasite like Google etc, which means he is either sleazy or kinda stupid and I would really like it to be stupid but it’s actually a twisted form of support.
I plan to attack that institution some day.

So I like to leave digital traces indicating that I am never attacking my mentor for all that he is a sellout at a not very obvious level. He is not sleazy like a normal human. But the more intelligent you are the more is expected of you.

To know a major part of contemporary elite is to know some of the most awful and failed humans in human history so far who show no signs of being remotely redeemable in the far future.

But all that aside, at least he was never inappropriate or creepy like these guys nor at all sexist himself even if it was either being a dupe or kinda sleazy to buy into those creeps.

But at least he was always a decent and professional mentor. Thats a sacred relationship. Thats so fucking creepy. I wouldn’t say it’s like a parent but there is a distinctly creepy and incestuous feel to these boss employee or mentor mentee things.

And my main mentor was awesome. He is like one of us..he is very pro his people as much as he can.

2. Unless we (the US society as a whole) can hold these people as criminals, we are condoning it.

I'm sure this form of divine rights (for the powerful/monied) has existed forever. But a democracy that strives to give every person a say in the future cannot allow this usurpation of power.

3. Summers sought Epstein's advice in 2018 on screwing a "mentee"

As Summers Sought Clandestine Relationship With Woman He Called a Mentee, Epstein Was His ‘Wing Man’

Summers, who has been married since 2005, told Epstein he thought the woman was reluctant to leave him because she valued his professional connections. Epstein told him in one June 2019 text, “She is doomed to be with you.”

“Think for now I’m going nowhere with her except economics mentor,” Summers wrote in November 2018. “I think I’m right now in the seen very warmly in rear view mirror category.”
...
A spokesperson for Summers said that the woman described in the exchanges was never Summers’ student, but declined to comment further for this article.

In at least some of his exchanges with Epstein on the relationship, Summers appears to refer to macroeconomist Keyu Jin ’04, a tenured professor at the London School of Economics at the time, who is mentioned in a series of late 2018 messages between the two men.
...
Throughout the seven months of correspondence reviewed by The Crimson, Summers and Epstein referred to the woman Summers was pursuing in some messages by the code name “peril” but never used her name in messages directly describing the relationship. On at least two occasions, the two men discussed Jin’s emails to Summers, which he forwarded to Epstein. In later messages, the two men appeared to joke about the probability that Summers would have sex with the woman, apparently Jin.

Keyu Jin is a Chinese name; "peril" in connection with that is ... appalling.

I don’t think anyone would shed a tear if the Epstein files destroyed him.

His reputation was already shot after his tenure at Harvard and that infamous memo or those statements about m female intelligence or whatever. I think his boneheaded economic policies were partly responsible for democrats losing so many seats in 2010. Had a lot of the benefits of the stimulus bill been realized earlier, I think democrats would have done much better.

TLDR: he’s basically a piece of shit. Good riddance.

I think he kept arguing that Obama’s stimulus bill was too big and then criticized either Biden’s infrastructure bill, or the build back better.

For some reason, it does not surprise me in the least that was associated with Epstein.

years ago? I remember the controversy but not the quote. Anyway, it all goes to show his lack of respect for women and his involvement with Epstein and his "girls" just back that up. He's always seemed like a creep to me.

Something about women having no aptitude for science.

He is a fucking idiot. Though I will say this, it’s almost as ghastly when this type tries that totally phony “we support women in science!” shit. At least he is honestly a complete creep/boor.

After that mind numbing “woke capitalism” spectacle and greenwashing took a hammer and tongs to enlightenment values sneakily, I figure it’s better when these guys outright attack those things over embrace and destroy them with their marketplace version of some sort of ghastly concept of feminism where you keep losing more rights, but hey here is a fucking emoji that vaguely looks like some random woman.

Besides they are so dislikable you kinda want them as enemies not faking it.

I like that we are going back to old conflict lines.

She would have made such a good POTUS. Some of the people who brought in sweeping reforms fast (Rohit Chopra, Lina Khan etc) were from the Warren wing of the party.

I do think Lina Khan was a huge driver of this tech creep driven malice.

Lina Khan for President! She would know just what to do about these tech creeps. Those guys hate democracy and will destroy it any way they can.
