US senators say they spoke with Rubio about Trump's Ukraine peace plan who denied it is a US plan

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) U.S. senators critical of President Donald Trumps approach to ending the Russia-Ukraine war said Saturday they spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio who told them that the peace plan Trump is pushing Kyiv to accept is a wish list of the Russians and not the actual U.S. plan.
The 28-point peace plan was crafted by the Trump administration and the Kremlin without Ukraines involvement. It acquiesces to many Russian demands that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has categorically rejected on dozens of occasions, including giving up large pieces of territory. Trump says he wants Ukraine to accept the plan by late next week.
The senators earlier said Saturday it would only reward Moscow for its aggression and send a message to other leaders who have threatened their neighbors.
The senators' opposition to the plan follows criticism from other U.S. lawmakers, including some Republicans, none of whom have the power to block it. The senators, who spoke at an international security conference in Canada, included a Democrat, an Independent and a Republican who does not plan to seek reelection next year.

(4,114 posts)If it can become a basis for further negotiation,
and lead to an end to the war, that would be good, of course---
but the 'plan' as it stands appears to be a plan for
Ukraine to 'bend over and TAKE it', pardon the expression...

@marcorubio
The peace proposal was authored by the U.S.
It is offered as a strong framework for ongoing negotiations
It is based on input from the Russian side. But it is also based on previous and ongoing input from Ukraine.

Ending a complex and deadly war such as the one in Ukraine requires an extensive exchange of serious and realistic ideas. And achieving a durable peace will require both sides to agree to difficult but necessary concessions. That is why we are and will continue to develop a list of potential ideas for ending this war based on input from both sides of this conflict.
I'd feel bad for not understanding WTF is going on, but I don't believe anyone in this clowncar administration knows for sure either.
