Leading Democrat calls rise in ICE detention deaths under Trump "stunning"

Source: msn/Newsweek

12h.

Representative Pramila Jayapal, a Washington Democrat, told Newsweek on Friday that the number of deaths in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention is “unprecedented” after almost two decades monitoring conditions.

“We’ve had long-standing concerns about ICE detention and the facilities and the conditions that are in the detention centers, but as ICE has ramped up so incredibly rapidly, often with no bid contracts, people who have no experience running detention centers and the mass deportations, it’s all gotten much worse,” Jayapal said.

The congresswoman added: “One tangible way that I track that, as the top Democrat on the immigration subcommittee, is I get notices about deaths in ICE detention and the number of deaths that have happened just since Trump took office are really stunning.”

Jayapal is one of several lawmakers who have become increasingly concerned about conditions in ICE facilities, in particular wanting to know the circumstances which have led to an increase in deaths within detention centers under the current White House.

Just like someone in a nursing home or hospital who is neglected or mistreated.

Or did the Big Beautiful Bill cover that base?

ICE will do their best to cover their ass, and if there is a "get out of jail free" card in the big beautiful bill,
I would think honest Judges would ignore it knowing why it was put in there.

I call the number of deaths that have happened just since Trump took office unsurprising.

The only reason the Administration withholds information about deaths and, in fact, refuses to permit legally permitted inspections of detention centers by politicians is that the Administration is mistreating, torturing, and killing these people. It's a coward's crime, of course. You have an inmate murdered and then simply send any potential witnesses to El Salvador or Nigeria or some other Country from which they will never return. Or you treat inmates brutally and cruelly with that same sense of impunity: if they are able to complain about their treatment, they will be disappeared.

It appears the Dems are dropping the ball on this. To a lesser extent, so is the news media.

I'm sorry to rant, but the murder of innocents makes me angry. I think it makes many if not most Dems angry. But why aren't my Representatives acting to expose it, to stop it? Epstein's squalid business is, apparently, done and over. Yes, go after the sick shit stains who participated -- I'm including those even who kept their underwear on -- and make them pay for their perverted crimes. But the business itself has been shut down since Epstein's suspicious death. The Dems latched onto the issue and will not, I hope, let go until a full accounting is made and full accountability extracted from the perps.

But the Dems should also be raising public awareness of the murders and the torture of immigrants in Federal detention centers, not at the hands of some perverse billionaire but of the US Government itself.

To be clear, I am accusing Kristi Noem of permitting murder and ordering or encouraging torture in the detention centers. I'm further accusing her of doing so with the full approval and encouragement of Stephen Miller and, by inference, President Piggy, himself. There is more than enough evidence to warrant an investigation. The Fascist Party will, of course, obstruct, but the Dems must muster the spine and voice to make this an issue the public needs to know about.
