...while not the influence they were a generation + ago, have a moral platform higher than anything the Trumpsters have. They pushed civil rights and equal rights and got a lot done. I don't see them as a magic bullet but the churches and celebrities speaking truth to power has weight and visibility that has value in the work to contain Trump. I do realize the Evangelicals may never get on board en mass but anything helps.

Up until that point, abortion wasn't even on the religious no-no list, nor was sexuality and gender. This stuff was all driven by repugs wanting to drive a wedge between The People, and (especially) the Southern Baptists and (what was then known as) The Dominionists wanting more power once they'd had a taste of it. That's only a high level of it, there's so much more if you dig deeper... but suffice it to say they want to create a theocracy ala Iran, and are only going to keep pushing it. Those damned 7 Mountains MUST be achieved by them, you see. And I've noticed just how hard they're going after the "Mountain" of Entertainment right now. Once we take back the government from amoral repugs and MAGA, we're going to have a hell of a time getting religion out of government once again. (sigh)
