Khanna says Maxwell should be sent back to maximum security prison

After Ghislaine Maxwell’s closed-door deposition before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said she should be transferred back to the maximum security prison in Florida she was moved out of last summer.

Khanna, a member of the committee, wrote on social platform X that Maxwell refused “to answer a single question about the men who raped underage girls, saying she would only do so” if she received clemency from President Trump. “She must immediately be sent back to the maximum security prison where she belongs,” the California Democrat added.

During her testimony on the committee’s probe into the Jeffrey Epstein case, Maxwell invoked her Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination. Her attorney, David Oscar Markus, fired back at Khanna, writing on X that he “wants to punish someone for invoking a constitutional right.”

“Sending someone to harsher confinement because they invoke a constitutional right is something we associate with authoritarian regimes, not the United States Congress. Sad,” Markus added.
