Florida Republicans pass bill renaming Palm Beach airport after Trump

Source: The Guardian

Democrats in Florida have condemned Republican colleagues in the state legislature who approved the renaming of the airport in West Palm Beach the “President Donald J Trump International Airport”, less than a week after lawyers for Trump sought to trademark the name.

Only the signature of Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, now stands before a renaming ceremony at the airport less than six miles from the US president’s waterfront Mar-a-Lago mansion and private resort club in Palm Beach.

Currently known as Palm Beach International, the airport is frequented by Trump on Air Force One on most weekends during the winter season. The president is then driven to and from his residence along a stretch of road renamed Donald J Trump Boulevard in January in another act of homage by the Florida legislature.

The airport bill passed the Florida house by 81 votes to 30 on Tuesday in a strictly partisan vote after vocal pushback from a number of Democratic state representatives. It was then swiftly ushered through by state senators two days later.

When public outcry, even from Floridians, is so loud they have no choice. When Trump is finally exposed as a criminal pedofile.

They have rigged all the voting rolls and purged hundreds of thousands of once-Democrats' names and set it up with easily manipulated voting machine hardware. It will never be a blue state ever again because the republicans won't allow any changes to occur with the hardware-I'm glad we left

In 2015, Trump initiated a $100 million lawsuit against Palm Beach County claiming that officials, in a "deliberate and malicious" act, pressured the FAA to direct air traffic to the Palm Beach International Airport over his Mar-a-Lago estate, because he said the airplanes damaged the building and disrupted its ambiance.[74] Trump had previously sued the county twice over airport noise; the first lawsuit, in 1995, ended with an agreement between Trump and the county; Trump's second lawsuit, in 2010, was dismissed
. The 1995 lawsuit was settled in 1996, with the county granting him a lease on property that became the Trump International Golf Club.

In 2006–2007, Donald Trump engaged in a high-profile dispute with the town of Palm Beach, Florida, for erecting an 80-foot flagpole without permits at his Mar-a-Lago club, violating local 42-foot height restrictions. Trump claimed the, $10 million, later $25 million lawsuit was about free speech, while the town issued $250-per-day fines, totaling over $100,000. The dispute ended with a settlement to lower the pole to 70 feet at a different location and a $100,000 donation to veterans' charities

Stories about many of Trump's legal attacks with Palm Beach County are no longe accessable on Google. I know his shit goes back to the late 80s and 90s. The information was on Google but now I can't find it. Must just be I can't use a computer.

It’s 20 minutes from my son’s house in Boynton Beach. It’s a nice airport, fairly small and easy to find your terminal without having to walk miles. For future flights we’ll use Ft Lauderdale.
When the sh*t finally hits the fan (please!!!!) and he’s gone (one way or another) will the locals want their airport named for a child rapist?

If a politician's or military hero's name is used, not everyone is going to agree it's a good choice. Better just to use neutral designations related to the place.

I have so many lovely memories of that airport- and NONE of them have anything to do with Donald Trump. They have to do with beautiful PALM TREES and SUNSHINE!! Does everything everywhere have to be branded by Trump? Welcome to The United States of Trumpland. Please, no!

This is a consolation prize. He wanted Dulles International.

Besides all that, what happens when other Repug-run states want to name their airports after The Foul One too? Is the licensing deal country exclusive or just territorial?

that we moved out of Palm Beach County, a place that we lived for 30 years. The republicans stole that state from democracy and turned it scorchingly red. It was a paradise and now it's nothing but strip malls and bumper to bumper traffic jams from the ocean to the Glades/ I never want to go back there
