Kari Lake was illegally empowered to run the U.S. Agency for Global Media the federal agency that oversees Voice of America and her actions in that role were illegitimate, a federal judge ruled Saturday.
U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth concluded that Lake was ineligible to serve as USAGMs acting CEO when she was formally elevated to the position on July 31 in an acting capacity and without Senate confirmation. She relinquished that position on Nov. 19.
Lamberth said any actions Lake took in that four-month timeframe must be treated as void, including an Aug. 29 reduction in USAGMs workforce. Lamberth also invalidated actions Lake took when the agencys previous acting CEO, Victor Morales, delegated nearly the entirety of his responsibilities to her, concluding that this was also an illegal end-run around the Senates advice and consent role.

(2,628 posts)I had a feeling that Trump would try the Acting- administrative head trick again to avoid having to get Senate Confirmation - it was his favorite go to strategy in his first term. It sounds like the judge is not only putting Kari Lake in the hot seat but also laying the groundwork to insure that Trump can't use this particular gambit again.
I keep wondering how long the list of Federal crimes Trump has committed over the last year is now?

(13,166 posts)I need to do some research, but I think legal battles related to the dismantling of USAID and VOA and the impoundment of funds are still going on. There were also a bunch of xxx v. Lake cases. I think this decision applies to Abramowitz v. Lake and Widakuswara v. Lake, but that's not even clear to me.
